I have to say the reasoning that the things Bush et al have done have made the US "safer" is frankly bizarre - what is the basis for this?

That there have been no more attacks since 9/11?

By that rationale - Obama is doing a bang-up job on national security - as did every other president who didn't have to deal with terrorism in their term of office.

I think Bush and Cheney dumbed down the country to some degree - at least lowered the bar on what people expect from their elected officials.

Bush's presidential addresses were cringing to watch - like being forced to listen to a live performance of Kenny G while having oral surgery without anaesthesia.

You complain alot about conservatives negatively labeling liberals, but you negatively label conservatives freely. This hurts your credibility, ya know.

I criticize the right wing on VJ for their double standards, constant rhetoric & stereotyping of "liberals" (a term so widely used & abused it has lost all meaning). My contempt for the right is based on what I see as a general degradation of the Republican party... great Republicans like Reagan have been replaced by vile, bitter politicians like Cheney & cartoonish talking heads like Limbaugh & Coulter. I was a Republican back in the late 80's/ early 90's but I can no longer relate to or even respect a party that seems so quick to blame everyone else & doesn't seem to take responsibility for its failed policies. You see these same characteristics from the right on VJ.... constant Obama & "liberal" bashing, but mention Bush, Cheney, or even someone like Palin & it's "stop living in the past" or "you hate Palin because she is a woman".
