Obama has ordered that captured combatants in Afghanistan be Merandized and supplied with attorneys for their defense. He's treating Taliban like they robbed a 7-11!

He's being fair to Muslims. That should make you happy.

no, its not about them being muslim... its about him treating extremists/terrorists with only a slap on the hand.

I thought this thread was about Cheney... the Right Wing gets their collective panties in a bunch when a thread veers off course & talks about Bush, but apparently Obama bashing in a Cheney thread is acceptable. Here's a pic to get you back on target:

WASHINGTON, June 14 (Reuters) - CIA director Leon Panetta says it's almost as if former vice president ####### Cheney would like to see another attack on the United States to prove he is right in criticizing President Barack Obama for abandoning the "harsh interrogation" of terrorism suspects.

"I think he smells some blood in the water on the national security issue," Panetta said in an interview published in The New Yorker magazine's June 22 issue.

"It's almost, a little bit, gallows politics. When you read behind it, it's almost as if he's wishing that this country would be attacked again, in order to make his point."

Cheney, who was a key advocate in the Bush administration of controversial interrogation methods such as waterboarding, has become as a leading Republican critic of Obama's ban on harsh interrogations and his plan to shut the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In a blistering May 21 speech, Cheney said Obama's reversal of Bush-era policies were "unwise in the extreme" that would make the American people less safe.

Panetta called Cheney's actions "dangerous politics."

He told The New Yorker he had favored the creation of an independent truth commission to look into the detainee polices of former President George W. Bush. But the idea died in April when Obama decided such a panel could be seen as politically vindictive. (Reporting by David Morgan; Editing by Alan Elsner)

For all the debate over waterboarding, it has been used on only three al Qaeda figures, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials.

As ABC News first reported in September, waterboarding has not been used since 2003 and has been specifically prohibited since Gen. Michael Hayden took over as CIA director. (2006)

THREE PEOPLE!! AND NOT SINCE 2003!!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

You complain alot about conservatives negatively labeling liberals, but you negatively label conservatives freely. This hurts your credibility, ya know.

Well the fact of the matter is ####### Cheney can say whatever he wants. Let's not forget US was attacked on his and Bush's watch so they were careless and didn't pay attention to the security reports and briefings about a possible attack. Now he doesn't have an responsibility, so he thinks why say what I think is right. I think as an ex-VP one should be more careful and should advice the current administration rather than going out in public and saying whatever comes in your mind.

I would have guessed the number of individuals waterboarded was much higher, but it seems Luckystrike's numbers are valid. A footnote however is that each of these men was waterboarded many times (around 200 times each). Do I think waterboarding is torture? Yes I do. Has it led to actionable intelligence? Perhaps. Should it be allowed? Not IMO. Does that fact that bonafied terrorists were waterboarded bother me? Not really.

I criticize the right wing on VJ for their double standards, constant rhetoric & stereotyping of "liberals" (a term so widely used & abused it has lost all meaning). My contempt for the right is based on what I see as a general degradation of the Republican party... great Republicans like Reagan have been replaced by vile, bitter politicians like Cheney & cartoonish talking heads like Limbaugh & Coulter. I was a Republican back in the late 80's/ early 90's but I can no longer relate to or even respect a party that seems so quick to blame everyone else & doesn't seem to take responsibility for its failed policies. You see these same characteristics from the right on VJ.... constant Obama & "liberal" bashing, but mention Bush, Cheney, or even someone like Palin & it's "stop living in the past" or "you hate Palin because she is a woman".
