Need to push back interview

There is no point in calling the 1-800 miss-information line as all they are is a call center and they are not USCIS officers, they can only see the same information about your case as you can on the USCIS website. What you should do is make a infopass appointment at your local office, infact Boston do allow walk-ins, then you will be able to discuss all of this with a immigration officer.

Just remember that my friend did the same thing and still ended up gett refused entry back into the US. Is there no way you could delay the trip or come back intime for the interview.

I guess the real question is, will changing the address alter the interview date? Did your friends interview date change when he changed the address??

Wow! I just got off the phone with NCSC and the guy I got was incredible, I told him I just received my interview letter and that I moved and I would perfer to change my interview location closer to me and of course he told me that it would delay my interview (which I wanted anyway). He changed my address right away and set up a new interview date which I will be told on July 16th when it is. I asked him if it would suspend or void the orginal I-485 and he said no because I wasn't cancelling the interview just subject to change because of moving. I have to write a letter with a copy of the interview notice to the Baltimore field office (Confirmation and return receipt) and the confirmation number he gave me from the address change(so I will send that out immediately to make sure it doesn't delay anything ) :clock:

Hope you got his name. Good luck with the rescheduling hope it all works out ok in the end. You are a braver man than me, there is no way I would even try to do what you are doing, seen to many people get denied for failing to show up for their original interview. Must be some emergancy back home.

Good Luck.

I know everyone says not to postpone your interview but I really don't have much of a choice at this point, what do I need to do to make sure things will turn out ok? The interview is not until July 21st so I have time

Hi,

If I were you, I would make an Infopass appointment ASAP, go to the original Field Office where you will have to go for your interview, and explain the situation. Then you will get an immediate feel of where you stand. If you cannot change the date, you will know. If you can change it, you will know too (but try and get this on paper, if at all possible, or take/send a letter to the Field Office, just as a precautionary measure for yourself. You will then have it on paper that you requested the change, just in case something were to go wrong in your case because of this, and you need to take legal action.)

Do not waste your time calling the USCIS helpline. We tried this too (because my husband was away on military orders and could not possibly attend), were told we would receive an answer within 45 days - except the interview was already in less than that! And we never got a response. (So I went by myself on the day of interview, but considering the orders, that is a different situation from yours.).

Infopass will be your best bet.

If this does not help, contact your Senator/Congressman, and ask them to intervene. Usually USCIS reponds to them much, much quicker, so this would again give you an idea of where you stand.

IMO, the change of address idea will only complicate matters. So I would not do this.

Good luck!

Well its really not like a life or death situation for my wife and I, whats the worse thing that can happen? She gets denied and sent back to Thailand and take care of her mother. We have all the proper documentation so it would be just a matter of clearing things up. Its going to cost money either way, cancel or change the flights or hire a lawyer would be the most extreme case anyway. I figure if it really gets bad we can just fly back earlier before the orginal interview date. We don't have kids, so if I don't see her for a few months we can handle it(hey we all had to wait during the K-1 process anyway) I'll keep you guys posted, but as long as the interview date gets change its no big deal..

Wouldn't it make more sense to try to change the date now, and if it is not possible after all, just come back a few days earlier, indeed? It seems like it would be a lot more trouble if your wife gets an AOS denial, is sent back at POE end of July, and has to fight the denial. Good luck anyway.

Thanks for the Good Luck, but I figure I should hear something before the July 21st interview date (35days) and if I don't I will declare an emergency in Thailand and change my flight back...I think its only $250 a person to change the flight. But I have read a lot of the threads here and no one has really experienced too much of this so its alot of Opinions and not too much fact. I realize the helpline isn't the best but he actually changed my address and submitted the interview reschedule himself, he seemed very capable and at this point its probably the best feeling I have had from a immigration employee.

I agree with you, changing the flights was the first thing I tried to do but NWA wanted to charge me $2200.00 to change flights that I already paid $2000.00 for, so thats why I am taking this approach, I really think the change of address will get me the extra time I need and if not I will bite the bullet on trying to get home early.

Your first mistake was going with an inferior airline. They have no clue when it comes to international air business.

What are you talking about...NWA is a SkyTeam partner (Delta, Air France....) and they are just as good as any other ones...the price doesn't change with the Airline's experience...what airline should he fly with then???

Please.... what airline he is flying with has nothing to do with the situation the OP finds himself in. If you feel the need to discuss which airline is better then I think Off Topic would be the place to do it.

Apparently it does since he mentioned them and their ridiculous change fees. R.I.F.

Then why do you need to change your interview?

Because if I can get the interview changed to a different field office thats closer and have it pushed back at the sametime I won't have to worry about getting back early and throwing a bunch of money away.
