The instructions for the I130 ask you call your nearest consulate to inquire about payment of the fees. Anyone have any tips on this? Was planning on heading to the bank tomorrow to get a money order in USD to send to Vermont, but wanted to see if I was able to do that.

Thanks. :D

lol, I guess I didn't make my original post clear. :)

What I was trying to ask is if the USCIS will take a money order from a Canadian bank and do I just send it along with my form. (I'm a US citizen with a Canadian husband; both living in Vancouver).

and thank you for the welcome, Trail. I'm draggin' my hubby back home to Orlando, so we'll be awful close to you!

So if you are both living in Vancouver are you applying for the K3 or IR1?

And yes, USCIS will accept a money order, in U.S. dollars, from a Canadian bank.

The reason I ask is that if it is the IR1 - you can just file in Vancouver - unless you are part of the couple that doesn't want to travel to Montreal?

I am part of the anti-flying couple (well, I'm the anti-flyer, husband isn't.. lol). IR1 also isn't an option because of the Affidavit of Support - I have no income in the US nor assets.

And thank you for the info. Can head off to Vancity tomorrow. :D

Oh that's too bad, that you can't direct file, since you don't need to attend the interview. I completely understand the no fly thing - I don't either!

We had to fly back to Florida in March for my grandpa's funeral - what a trip! Husband does not want to fly with me again, LOL.

We're content with filing the K3 - we don't have a necessity to have the green card right away for him to work, etc.

One other thing, about the affidavit of support - I don't know much about K3 visas, but don't you have to submit an I-134?

From what I understand, it may require the affidavit, but I can use a co-sponsor. I read somewhere recently that you cannot use a co-sponsor on an IR1.

Found this on the USCIS site:

Is an Affidavit of Support required as part of a K-3 or K-4 visa application?

A Form I-864, Affidavit of Support Under Section 213 of the Act, is not required when applying for the K-3 or K-4 visa. However, the K-3 or K-4 nonimmigrant will need to furnish evidence showing that he or she will not become a public charge while in the United States. You may opt to complete a Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, to help demonstrate that your K-3 or K-4 will not become a public charge while in the United States. When the K-3 or K-4 visa holder applies for adjustment of status, he or she will adjust status as an immediate relative, and at that time will require a Form I-864.

You can absolutely use a co-sponsor for and IR1 visa (for the I-864)
