Question about Social Security Number application

Hi everyone.

It's been 2 weeks since I entered the US on my K1 visa. I got married this last weekend. and I want to apply for the Social Security Number.

I looked at the application and I have one doubt about it. Where it says "citizenship". I'm guessing I would be "legal alien allowed to work".

Please let me know if this is correct.

I'm taking my passport with my K1, my I-94 attached to it and my Birth Certificate (original in Spanish and a translated copy). Is this enough or do I need something else?

Cheers

Go get you SSNO as soon as possible. Take your Passport with VISA and I-94 attached to it. Anymore it takes about 8 weeks to 10 weeks to get your Card.

Note you are married. Don't tell them that though. If you do they can not issue you a Social Security Card. Your i-94 authorization give you the right to a Social Security Card. But being married changes that STATUS and they will not issue it until you get you conditional residence papers.

Rosie got hers as soon as she got in country.

Her Girlfriend got married and then tried to get hers and said she was married and showed her marriage license and SHE DID NOT GET HERS.

LAUGHING DON'T ask DON'T TELL

INCORRECT INFO!

Your status as a K-1 does not change when you get married. You are still eligible for a SSN. My wife and I went AFTER we got married and showed them the marraige certificate and she was issued a SSN in her married name.

Yes, you would check "Legal alien allowed to work"

You should also take your marriage licence if you want to have SSN card with new last name.

As we all know everything is up to the person who you are talking to. They might not give you SSN cuz you are not allowed to work so GOOD LUCK

Congrats on your marriage! :star:
