Troll vs n00b control for OT

As in other sites I've been on (for example, parts of Flyertalk.com),

it may be useful for pest/troll management to set a predetermined number of posts throughout VJ-land before posting is allowed in the General Discussion (OT in particular) areas.

In terms of site architecture, how complicated could this be to set up?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

That's a good idea. Should also prevent anyone from posting a new poll until they've got some posting mileage under their belt.

It would keep the sarans properly wrapped.

Indeed.

I see more 'trolling' in areas other than OT than in it..

Which may likely increase if this suggestion is implemented... however... suspicion lies in this activity coming from less sources than we may think. It may make perm bans easier to enforce.

But noobies/trolls make interesting fun....

shucks...

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Well, I can see how the clique group wouldn't want noobs in their OT threads, but in reality don't trolls and noobs cause more destruction outside the OT giving completely innacurate info that is even worse than the misinformation line?

Great point Laura. I've read some stuff here about highlighting the guides, et al a bit more.

Besides... this would be bad n00bs giving other n00bs clueless information... and we do have wandering VJ-pedias posting about too that correct their mistakes.

As for the OT cliques... yeah... a bit childish- which is part of the reason I took an OT sabbatical. Separate issue, however.

Yes, but sometimes the VJ-pedias are not present and harm can be done, but then again we can't control who posts what where, unless there's a way to prevent people from posting until they have read the guides.

I like the OT cliques, that's what the OT is for, messing around, hanging around, being childish and stupid, stress relieving from work, life, and the whole visa process.

HAL 9000 likes your idea.

Maybe there should be a quiz?

[in terms of OT cliques, I mean it in terms of 'the usuals' saying the same, repetitive nonsense. Other than that, we are all in a manner of speaking, chopfvcks, to a certain degree. I guess its how you pair that with other qualities- like fun-baiting vs jerk-baiting... that makes deserving different fates something to be judged by the appropriate channels. Yet that is OTT here.]

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
