Is there any logical reason why my 2 year permanent resident card would be backdated one year? I went for my interview and was approved on January 24, 2008 - granted conditional permanent residency for 2 years (married for less than 2 years at time of interview). However, I just realized that my card shows January 24, 2007-January 24, 2009. I'm freaking out because I thought my card was 08-10, and so I have not applied to get the conditions removed and now my card is expired... I had no idea that the date would be from one year PRIOR to my initial interview. Does this make any sense to anyone??? Could it be because I did an adjustment of status or something?

Will I have trouble applying now to get the conditions removed or should I call and see why the card is for 07 instead of 08?

HELP!

You need to schedule INFOPASS right away, don't bother calling them. And get this taken care of in person. Bring all documentation, including NOA's and welcome letter, etc. Show them that it was a mistake. Knowing USCIS... they will probably say it's your fault for not noticing sooner and ask you to pay for a new card.

Thanks.. what a pain. I literally was 10 minutes from boarding a plane to visit my parents in canada when I pulled out my card to make sure I had everything with me when I noticed the date... had to get them to pull my luggage off the plane and everything! I definitely should have noticed sooner, but it's easy to see what you expect to see when you first get the card. I was just so excited to finally have it that I didn't even look at the years. I use the card so infrequently that I only just now caught it. I'm really looking forward to having to deal with this... argh.

So scheduling an appointment with InfoPass is my only real option, huh?

Infopass is your wisest option as they will keep record of the visit, but one you schedule the appt. you could call USCIS in the interim I suppose.

Yes schedule infopass, it's better to talk to someone face to face in these kind of cases. Also, don't forget to scan the front and back image of your wrong info GC, just in case.

Okay, here's an update...

Called the USCIS customer service number and after much difficulty, finally was able to speak with a real live person. I told her my problem and she said that if I believe that it is an administrative, typo problem, then I just need to file form I-90, select option D ("my card was issued with incorrect information because of a USCIS administrative error"), send it to the lock box in Phoenix along with my PR card and any supporting documentation that proves that the error was administrative, and hopefully they should issue me a new, correct card at no charge.

We shall see....

What a headache!!!!

In the meantime, you might want to get the I-551 stamp placed in your passport. It may take a while to get the replacement greencard, and with the stamp you should be able to travel and complete that trip home to see your parents. You can get the stamp at an infopass. Good luck - and good thing you caught the error before you left the country!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

It is taking 3-4 months now due to card production equipment upgrades.

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/tem...00045f3d6a1RCRD

do you think they will give me the I-551 stamp if they are in the process of determining whether it truly is an error on their end? if they just go by what my card says now, i'm expired....

any idea how long it takes to get a replacement card?
