My husband and I jointly submitted our I-751 (with our slew of supporting documentation) to remove the conditions of my conditional green card. My conditional green card expires at the end of August 2009. The California Service center received our submission this morning :) However, according to the USCIS website, I-751 processing times are on average 6 months! Now I don't want to panic yet, but if I don't get my new green card by the end of August, and my other one expires, I will not be a legal permanent resident. Am I missing something here?? I have job and a plane ticket to Canada this October, and without a green card, well .... you know where I'm going...

You should shortly receive a letter extending your permanent resident status for a further 12 months, pending approval of your I-751 application. This is referred to on these forums as the NOA1.

02-18-2009 - I-751 filed (Removal of Conditions)

02-20-2009 - NOA1

03-20-2009 - Biometrics Appointment

03-23-2009 - Touched

06-22-2009 - Removal of Conditions approved (via USPS)

07-01-2009 - Email from USCIS advising of approval

07-06-2009 - Received 10-yr Permanent Resident Card

02-18-2010 - Eligible to file for naturalization

Since you submitted your I-751 to CSC, you are lucky. CSC approves I-751s pretty quickly, most likely you will get approval before your conditional green card expires. Even if it will take longer, your NOA1 extends your greed card for a year.
