Does anyone out there sign their name with their first initial and then their last name? My name is ridiculously long, so I just sign the first letter of my first name and then my entire last name. That's my signature. I got my I-129F back today and it said it needed a 'proper signature'...and then to send it all back when I did that. What does that mean? Anyone else encountered this? My parent's and friends are thinking I need to 'properly' sign my full name, as does my fiance, 'cos he signs his name the same way I do. I tried calling the 800# on the UCSIS Form, but their system was having issues and they said they couldn't access my info and to try back. Tomorrow being the 4th, I assume they will be closed, so I thought I would ask you guys to see if anyone has encountered this before.

So my next question would be...I sent in my packet with the old I-129F form, as the new one wasn't available yet. Should I send it back, once 'properly' signed with the new form?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wow that's pretty picky... maybe you should send a new form and an old one? I'm not sure though someone else can help you for sure. Good luck!

Wow, what a load of shite. Personally, I have never experienced that.

Like the previous post suggested, you may want to consider sending the new form with the signature and send the original along as well. Otherwise, you will wait for an IMBRA RFE, on top of this delay.

Can you add some cancelled checks or other official documents with your signature? A signature does not require all the letters in your name. Heck, most signatures are illegible anyway... Go figure.

if they sent you back the whole form to sign or re sign, i would submit the new form together with the old form behind it. what's there to lose? maybe add another sheet (cover letter?) to explain that because the forms were updated, you will be submitting the new I-129F form together with the old one. if i were in your shoes this is what i would do.

as for your signature, as far as i can remember, i submitted my passport and certificate of citizenship together with the I-129f form. i just made sure that my signature was consistent on all three...

i hope this helps. just my two-cents...

Well, the old form isn't available anymore, is it? I'd send the new one, but being the nerd I am, I'd try and call them again to double check.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

Thanks guys...I will call again on Wednesday. It's just annoying. If that it what the problem is then I have to get my fiance to redo his stuff and send it off to me again. Just a bump in the road. Glad we set a wedding date for August of NEXT year.

Thanks for your responses.

You might not want to mention that your wedding date is set for August of next year. I mean... you're supposed to get married within 90 days as of his entrance in the U.S. Oh, well, you know that already.

I know...we're not planning on him moving over here until June or July of next year. We've given ourselves plenty of time for this process to 'run it's course' and for unexpected delays such as this. Also giving ourselves enough time to plan and wedding AND save money for it all.

Prior to sending in my petition, my fiancee signed her signature exactly like you did, with her first name initial and last name. This is how some people sign their signature in Iraq. I did not think this was good so I email her and had her redo all her signatures with he first, middle, and last name. My thought behind this is below.

I truly agree that when the individual signs his signature it is the individual's unique way of signing, most of the time it is not always legible either.

I have always been thought that when it comes to official/legal documents one should always print and sign with their full name. (first, middle(if they have one), and last).

This is why I had my fiancee redo all her signatures. I did not think it would fly with the people at USCIS. I thought they would send it back for this. I am glad now that I made her change it.

If you used the the I129f form with questions regarding IMBRA, you're fine. Based on your timeline, I'm guessing you did use the 'new' one. If you didn't, you'll get an RFE that will contain questions that were missing in the previous form they had up. Even if you haven't met through a marriage broker (be sure to check the definition), you're asked to say that you haven't met through one and still have to answer some questions about criminal background.

I've used my signature as it is - kind of illegible and it passed. So, I don't know why they focused on the signature thing...

I hope this helps.

A signature is a signature no matter what it is. There has been RFE's in the past for signatures that have appeared to them to be a photocopy and not an original. This may perhaps be the case with yours. Did you get the entire packet back? Was the signature definately for the I-129F or for one or both of the G-325A's?

If you only got the I-129F back, does it have a date stamp of when it was received at the service center. If so you would need to return this form, but I would also include a completed new I-129F if you originally sent the old form so you wont get an RFE to be compliant with the IMBRA.
