Marc - you rarely (if ever) post on topic. Pretty much everything you type is ad hominem or an insult. Suggesting that the responses you get are because someone "disagrees" with you is well... not entirely (not even slightly) accurate.

And your right there with me doin the same shite along with untold others. Back to your swing set lil one!

Ganging up?

Grown men crowing again because they can't accept that they are voicing a minority opinion. Seriously Charles, if you think being the lone voice of reason is why these people get suspended you really should take it up with the mods and make sure those cyber bullies get suspended - if not banned. What a joke.

so only majority opinions are acceptable around here? keep on baaa'ing and following the herd. so much for the myth of liberal tolerance, it's nothing more than narrow mindedness!

Oye... It's not difference of opinion that's the issue, but people's online behavior. The 'rogue' list of people you selectively chose as examples of being unfairly treated by others is absurd, funny and sad. It's no different than your agitation towards Eric's online behavior to which I think you agree along with everyone else, that Eric is treated according to his behavior. Take the blinders off and realize that's the crux of why many members here respond to those with those on your selective list.

cleo is talking about minority opinions, bolded to assist you in finding it. do try to keep up with the topic at hand, steven.

 The liberal mythoi 1) They are not liberals and 2) Theirs is the only opinion that matters. (Oops! It's not opinion, it's fact, and if you don't agree with them, it's because you are "uneducated'.)

Hmm.. Mr. Bill, why u wanna go and start all this sh!t again after we finally brought this thread around to fish and Joos and Swedish supermodels and Marc? All the best things in life :P

Ok , ok, if you insist.

I know you only play the outraged conservative anyway, you're not really all that outraged (and neither do I believe is Charles) to start with. So long as we're only play-acting then.....

On your point 1 - most 'liberals' I know will call themselves that. I've been known to. To me 'liberal' is not a dirty word. Where I grew up in Canada Liberal (capital 'L') is a political party. Here in the US, I see it as two things: a philosophy of social laisser faire - let people do their own thing, smoke pot, watch porn, etc. (as opposed to the uptight conservatives who frown on pot smoking and porn watching... ). It's a generalization, I know, but it's my perception of a key difference. Also, liberals do believe in social welfare - the concept that we're all in this together and we should be using the instruments of government and society to look out for each other at some level. I really do believe in that - raised Canadian I guess it's in my blood. But I can appreciate and respect the counter-argument that too much social-safety-net equalization perverts the natural flow of the marketplace. I'm very sympathetic to using market forces wherever possible - that is where true economic growth comes from. That's not incompatible with being a 'liberal' in my view.

On point 2- what you describe are not liberals. You've described idealogues. And idealouges come from the left and the right. There are liberals who live in echo chambers and refuse to listen or accede to other's points of view. And there are conservatives who do the very same. Many of them can be found right here on VJ. (In my opinion there are more conservative idealogues than liberals, but there are both persuasions). And both are insufferable and boring. Then again, there are liberals and conservatives who are interested in debating ideas, thinking new thoughts, and willing to be swayed by reasonable arguments. I'd like to think I am such a person. I believe you are such a person. So why the labels? And why play the sound bite game?

I think you're better than that. Even if you are a mean husband who won't let his wife eat crackers in bed.

But doesn't that only justify why you - not *you* but people *like* you ;) - can continue to indulge in innuendo and stereotypical generalisation?

Seems to me its all just a way of maintaining the flawed assumptions that people are objecting to - and that addressing people by type rather than as individuals is just a way of pigeonholing people and ridiculing them without actually listening to their arguments.

That's how it seems to me anyway - and we can come up with no shortage of clever little mnemonics about why Conservatives are better than Liberals (or vice versa) but its all mindless bull$hit at the end of the day.

Sound bites work, mate! :D
