I'm looking at about $10k of stuff although we will probably only be shelling out about 6, due to my parents giving us money as a present, as well as his grandma, and his dad is taking care of the photography and flowers for us which helps bring down the cost even more. If I can get lower than this, I definately will.

Our cost also included our honeymoon. Plus thanks to the generosity of our families we were able to cover the cost of AOS from wedding money rather than dip into our savings. We also had a Polterabend before the wedding and that cost is included.

Our wedding was very unique - a medieval themed wedding at a medieval village near here. The price included use of the grounds, an entire 5 course reception complete with minstrels and trumpet fanfare for each course :-) Our dear friend was the photographer. My friend was the minister. Another dear friend did our flowers for us. You don't have to spend a lot to have a beautiful and memorable wedding. Besides, honestly, it's everything that comes afterwards that is more important!

We got married on the outer banks in North Carolina, a very intimate wedding - we spent $1,500 total :) It really was the best day of my life and was perfect :) No need to spend a lot, people make the wedding awesome, not the sides :star:

We haven't had ours yet but we are planning on under $1,000. We are nontraditional so we aren't having a bridal party (just unnecessary stress, if you ask me), flower girls, anything like that. No crazy off the wall decorations. Outdoor weddings decorate themselves, in my opinion. No dinner at the reception which is the thing people spend so much on. Doesn't suit us at all! I haven't gotten my dress yet but I think that spending over 200 for a one time dress is pointless. It's about the marriage, not about having an outrageous wedding. We're still planning it though but I really think we can do everything for well under 1000. I'm sure we won't even come close to that! Don't start off a new life, and marriage, with money problems or in debt if you can avoid it.

Our ceremony (Justice of the Peace) was $60 and 5 of my family members attended. Afterwards we had lunch at a nice restaurant, my parents took care of the lunch.... I think it was probably $200-$250.

Would you count the AOS fee ($1010) as a wedding expense? If I did, then I'd estimate our future wedding costs to be around $6,000. This is not including our honeymoon which could be an additional $2,000.

I agree you don't have to spend a lot to have a great time. We had a wonderful time. I forgot to include the registry fees and food. So mine probably totaled $700 instead of $500. In big weddings the bride is normally so stressed. My sister was a bridezella, lol. My friend whose wedding was approx $12,000 was evil and literally told her mother that she can go home the day before the wedding, haha. I told her to calm down. My American wedding may be around $1,500 also. My family wants it to be lavishing and told me they will assist in the money. I told them having the money is not an issue, the stress and amount money spent is.

Converting reais into dollars, the wedding has cost us US$30,000 so far (we still have to pay one last thing and to buy A LOT of food to cook for all the family members who are coming from the States and from other states here in Brazil, and they are staying for 2 weeks).

That doesn't include honeymoon. My dad is paying for the wedding. Our money we will use for the "moving to America" costs as well as all of our furniture, and honeymoon. I'm very fortunate my dad was able to pay for our wedding. It's going to be a real big one. Warning: big weddings are stressful. VERY stressful! Unless you don't have a dream of a big wedding, or a sh!tload of money to pay for someone to take care of everything for you, don't go for it. Looking for good but cheap caterers and musicians and decorators and everything else gets really annoying after a while. I think it will all be worth it in the end, can't wait for my big day but like I said, don't have a big wedding if you don't care for a dream huge wedding.

Good luck!

Oh, and the sooner you book things, the cheaper it is. It is true for everything in a wedding! Unless you are buying the dress from the store, than it's probably gonna cost the same anytime you buy it. But if you are having the gown and suit made, than the sooner the better. Everything, caterers, flowers etc, in the wedding industry has an annual price increase. So if your wedding is going to be in 2010, make sure you sign contracts in 2009 still, it's gonna save you lots!

10K. My parents only kid, so they sprung for it, which we much appreciated :) We both really wanted a wedding, jsut having a dinner after a courthouse thing wasn't for us.

We had our wedding on a Thursday, so we saved a lot on the DJ and the hall. I used to play in my high school's orchestra, so I called the old director and he had the 1st chairs get together and do a quartet. We paid them 100$ and a big bag of candy, much cheaper than professional musicians wanted and almost as good.

Make sure you get your dress in early. I bought mine in February or March for a late August wedding. Luckily the dress in stock fit me, so they let me have that one since to order it, it would have gotten in about 1-2 weeks before the wedding.

I don't get people who get so stressed about the whole wedding thing. I was so stressed about my husband (then fiance) getting here that I wasn't that bothered on the wedding day. My niece got married 3 weeks before we did and she was a nut about planning the whole wedding and was HORRIBLE on her wedding day. We all just stayed out of her way. No idea why people need to be so ####### about every detail.

Been there, done that before with a traditional wedding and weren't going that route again. Spent about $300 total.

I think the same for us. We will have a big dinner and show but not like we are being married for the first time. It will be more than $300 but that is because I have a large family.

moving right along
