Is it important for affidavits to be notarised?

When you're calling USCIS to find out what you need for your RFE, you can ask them this too.

Some say yes, others say no. However, I believe that they are of very little use - so, if you have enough evidence of co-mingled lives (Bank/credit/utility/Insurance/home-ownership joint statements), do not bother with affidavits. Good Luck

To each their own. We sent affadivits and had them notarized. I can't read the USCIS's mind and I don't know what they want. I have waited too long and spent too much money not to include everything I can. I know all the dicussions about notarizing them or not. We did and I am comfortable with that. Good luck.

isn't an affidavit supposed to be notarized..?? or else it would just be a letter...

affidavit: a sworn statement in writing made especially under oath or on affirmation before an authorized magistrate or officer

Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since your conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship. (Such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer as to the information contained in the affidavit.) The original affidavit must be submitted and also contain the following information regarding the person making the affidavit: his or her full name and address; date and place of birth; relationship to you or your spouse, if any; and full information and complete details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge. Affidavits must be supported by other types of evidence listed above.

If you are going to send affidavits, then have them notarized the instructions on the I751 seem to indicate.

Why not ask this also at the infopass apoointment you are going to make regarding the non-specific RFE request you have received?

In your case, since you got a RFE, I would suggest that you notarize them just to be on the safe side.

and they told me

We sent two affidavits from friends, and they weren't notarized, just included all of the info indicated on the form instruction, that they would want to see (date and place of birth, address, relationship to us, how long we've known one another, etc.) - was approved, with no RFE, but each case is different...
