CASABLANCA INTERVIEW advice...

Hey guys,

I was just looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through the interview process at the Casablanca consulate in Morocco. I've heard horror stories about it so I just wanted to know what my fiancee should be prepared for.

A couple of things that I am hoping will help our case is 1) that we met in person - I was studying abroad and we met at the same university. So, it's not like I just met her online or anything which could possibly be considered sketchy. Plus, 2) she is a girl, and I heard that they go a little easier on girls than guys. Also, 3) she was an English major, and has been speaking English since she was growing up in Jordan, so she is basically fluent, and language won't be a problem. How much do you think these factors will help our case, if at all?

We have photos, passport stamps, transcripts, her school ID card, and a certificate of completion on my part to prove we were together at the same university (within 2 years) and emails, a couple letters, a couple MSN convos and lots of phone bills to prove we have an ongoing relationship.

She also teaches at a cooking school where she lives and she's met people who work at the consulate in the visa department there (they've taken cooking classes with her) so it'd be nice if the person interviewing her already met her in her cooking class!! hahah

Just looking for any heads up though and advice about what could help and what to expect for her interview. Thanks.

Chris

Everything looks good! Good luck :)

Why would meeting online considered sketchy??? If you met in real life as well (for example I went to America for 3 months after meeting eachother online) there's no problem with meeting eachother online. I for one met my financeé in an online game. lol

yeah thats true. im just nervous cause i heard casa is so tough. holland is a 1st world country (an awesome one - i was there :)) with a presumably (im guessing) low-fraud rate, so i would guess that they prob arent as hardcore about the visa process as morocco is. i met my fiancee during my semester abroad last fall 2008, so we were together for about 2 months in person before i came back. we kept in touch everyday while until we both graduated just this past semester, i got a FT job, and now im about ready to apply. i just dont know what to expect for our situation.

I know what you mean. I didn't even got my NOA2 and I'm already nervous for everything lol. It's not more then normal.

I didn't know that about Holland? lol good to know thanks!! I have no good words up for Holland but that's my personal opinion ^^ and might be my city lol. Anyways I think Morocco is indeed a higher fraud country. But hang in there. And Pray to God that it'll all work out. It's all worth it eventually

a few months ago, there were a couple moroccan women posting, who were marrying americans and going through the visa process. i'll look around a little bit later for their names, and then you can search their posts and read what they wrote about it. it might be helpful.

Sounds like you have your bases covered...

Just try to be prepared as possible. Throw in everything that you can think of as evidence... passport stamps, hotel slips, bus tickets, photos together, etc... You'll probably be over-prepared, but that's the way to do it.

Also, did you receive some kind of certificate that you converted? That may be helpful as well...

Good luck!

My husband said that it seemed like they were asking more from people who didn't bring a lot of proof with them. He brought a lot of proof, emails, chats, pictures, letters, receipts, tickets we were extremely over prepared and they only asked to keep the e-mails and chats. However, other people that were there at the same time had said that they had to go provide more information.

The best advice he has is to just be confident in her answers. She knows you and knows all the answers to the questions, just be calm and watch for the trick questions. The CO asked my husband what I've done in my 29 years, and he corrected her several times saying that I'm only 26. She even challenged him on that saying "you don't know how old your wife is?!"

So just be calm, everything will be fine.

well i dont have any ticket stubs, i threw them all away cause i never thought i would need them at the time (go figure). and no hotel receipts either cause i was in school-funded housing since i was studying abroad. but i have passport stamps, and i have a Certificate of Completion from the university that i got at the end of the semester, along with my copies of my transcripts from there and a letter from the onsite director who works with the study abroad program verifying my both my program participation and relationship with my fiancee. and also a copy of my fiancees school card so they know she went to the same university.

and no i dont have a certificate that i converted because i kind of did it "unofficially". just with the parents in their house. it just involved quoting some verses from the koran but i didnt get an official certificate or anything like that. i dont know if that would be a problem. nobody there seemed to think that it would matter whether i did it "officially" or not.

Well, it sounds like you are good to go. Just make sure she has all her correct paperwork & documents. Pictures help, too!

Can't help you much about the certificate... but maybe someone here who has converted there and can help you out more with that one... It's definitely not a "requirement" for US visa...
