I wanna know from foreign fiancés and hubbys out there, on what could be other filipino dishes and exotic food you'd love and like, and that I could cook and serve as a surprise to my hubby ^_^

I like most Filipino food. Chinook and I mostly eat Filipino dishes. Here are some Filipino dishes we have enjoyed since Chinook arrived here in Seattle: :D

> Pork Inihaw

> Beef Inihaw

> Pork Caldereta

> Beef Caldereta

> Menudo

> Sinigang

> Pinakbet

> Pancit

> Pork Adobo

> Chicken Adobo

> Lumpia Shanghai

> Crispy Pata

> Sisig

> Palabok

> Lonsilog

> Kare Kare

> Tilapia-fried

> Bangus-fried

> Bangus-stuffed

> Sinigang na Bangus

> Dinuguan

> Monggo

> Picadillo

> Afritada

> Pork chops

> Goat stew

> Prawns-stir-fried or deep-fried

I don't care for tuyo, banana ketchup, and green mango with bagoong.

Hahaha....

Brings back some memories of my first time tasting the new foods. the first time i tried diniguan i didnt know what it was....i was with a filipino/american friend that ordered it and i ordered it too. It was pretty good. I have never tried balut because my ex and current wife wouldnt eat it at the time i would have tried it. If they wont eat it..neither will I. I like most all filipino foods...about the only thing i cannot stand is fried dry fish...something that smells that foul when cooked...WOW! I like kare kare, crispy pata and many others. I have always tried foods no matter where i travelled. I ate some sort of meat in turkey that until this day i do not know what it was...wasnt bad..wasnt great either though.

Some of the funnier things are though is getting a filipina to try some of the american foods. I couldnt get any of my ex's friends to eat bear or moose without tricking them. If i didnt tell them first, they loved it....but if you told them what it was before, forget it. I once tried tirelessly to get one of the girls to try spaghetti with moose italian sausage. She wouldn't have it. She also made diniguan at the same time and I ate that..I couldnt even guilt her into trying it. For the record though, black bear sometimes has a gamey taste...mine didnt. Moose on the other hand, you can cook it and feed it to anyone and they would think it was beef.

I am all for trying most things once....as long as it doesnt have a foul odor to it.

I can't get over how many husbands/fiances don't like danggit. I love it, even though a bad batch of it put me in the hospital for 2 days in Bantayan. My wife won't let me eat it anymore unless she cooks it.

Actually, I like just about every Filipino food I've tried. I've never met an American man yet that doesn't like sisig. The mangoes over there are the best I've ever had - and I grew up partly in Hawaii, which has excellent mangoes. Pusit, lechon, humba, adobo with any kind of meat, lecheflan, bangus, kang kung - it's all great.

Facebook has a fan page for Filipino food here:

The only Filipino food I'm not really wild about is halo halo. Why put all the extra stuff in there? Why not just have the leche, and maybe the gelatin with it. Why put mongo beans in a desert?
