Hello everyone

I am about to book my flight and would like to know what experiences people have had at immigration.

The reason being is that I will have to have a stopover, and need to know how long roughly to schedule between connecting flights? Is 4hrs long enough?

Any advice and experiences of what I can expect would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hi wildcat,

It mainly depends on what that airport your layover is. But I think, in most cases, 4hours is good enough assuming you don't have anything else going on in those 4 hours except get through immigration and catch the next flight, and maybe lil snack.. :)

PS: My POE was 14 years ago, so my answer may not be so accurate :)

Thanks for the info.

My layover is in Charlotte NC, and from the few reviews that are on this site it doesnt seem to be a bad one so thats something I guess.

Fingers crossed anyway, but heck... missing a connecting flight is the least of my worries after this whole process, I am just going to be happy to finally be on my way home to my wife!!

We foolishly had only an hour and half of waiting time before we were about to catch the connecting flight. I don't know how I missed that while buying our tickets but I did.

Our POE was Chicago, dealing with paperwork was piece of cake, no questions were asked and I was stamped. The real wait was for the baggages, but we did catch our connecting flight just 2 minutes before doors were about to shut down. It was a fun experience which we will always cherish and for future will make sure to have at least 3 hours waiting period between flights :P

Four hours is probably plenty. We allowed around six, and spent a LOT of time walking around the airport.

The first time you enter with an immigrant visa, there's some extra paperwork that they've got to do. How long it takes depends on how busy they are and such, but people have commonly reported between five minutes and 45 minutes. Ours was about 20 minutes.

In addition to the immigrant visa paperwork, you'll have to do the regular stuff about claiming bags, going through customs with your baggage, sending your baggage on to get on the next plane, then standing in line for the standard TSA screening that all domestic passengers go through. Plus finding your gate.

Our experience was 1 hour at JFK...that was more or less waiting in line...depends on what TIME of day you are traveling and the particular airport you plan on making the "POE"....basically you wait in line as everyone else and they check a few more things than they would the standard tourist...no big deal...plan it like you would if you were making a international connection in any airport...good luck
