Anyone who moved themselfs what kind of truck/van did you rent. est cost if you dont mind too. im thinking of moving myself b/c i have very little furnature that im bringing.

This is how we are thinking to do it, i drive my car with most of my things + my puppy and my mom drives the van with my desk + cabinet and two other peices of furnature. an anything else that i cant fit in my car. ( shes coming for the wedding anyways ). Is there any kind of trouble with this arrangement at the boarder? looking at prices to have my things shipped it will be really expencive for so little for some reason. oh i also have 3 computers and 1 laptop coming with me, will that be a problem at the boarder as well? - any other info will help out! thanks guys.

Hi Inky,

I rented a 17 foot UHAUL, but you can also get a 10 foot one. Drove from Oakville, ON to Philly, PA. It cost around $750 USD plus 2 fuel fill ups.

It's no problem if someone else drives the van, I drove my car and fiancee drove the truck behind me. Just make sure you go first and the van follows right behind you.

You would need to do a simple packing list stating the contents of your vehicle and truck. Also, if you are importing your car will need to go about doing that as well.

UHaul is probably your least expensive option, it's also the only one-way truck co. All others you'd have to return it where you picked it up.

I've checked numerous moving companies, then freight trucking companies and uhaul was definately the cheaper option as JillA mentioned. So that's the way I plan on going...and just renting the trailer to haul my car behind. Good Luck!

I used U-halul back in Dec 2004 and all went well. ENSURE you inspect the truck before accepting it!! ie fluid levels, tire pressure (to get better mpg!) U-haul at times has been known to provide less than adequate mechanical vehicles! Mine was ok and had NO problems. u can get the price of the rental on U-hauls website. Mine only had an am/fm radio, so an Ipod might come in useful, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
