Packet 3 Photograph Question

I'm filing DCF in London and I'm collating my Packet 3 this weekend. I've got to the part asking for photographs "which meet Department of State specifications" and the specifications are here: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/photo.html

Whenever I've had to submit photos for anything, I've used the bog standard passport photo machine that you find in most Post Offices, but they produce 1 3/4" x 1.5" (approx) photographs whereas we're being asked for 2" x 2" photographs.

Can I please have some guidance as to whether these photos are okay or if I need to find another way of providing the photographs?

My advice is to find a shop that knows what the consulate needs. Usually the Consulate will provide you with options to get you paperwork complete i.e. doctors, police websites etc and in Sydney they give you a list of places to get your photographs taken. Go to one of these, tell them it is for the US Consulate and they will make sure it is appropriately sized. If the Consulate does not give a list, then i would definitely recommend asking about the correct size photo before you choose a provider.

US size photos are bigger. Jessops on the Isle of Wight do the photos the right size, so I'd imagine any similar type shop in the UK would if you go in and ask. You don't need those till your interview and other people have said you can get them done at the Embassy (though the machine there isn't always working) or from a place called Happy snaps in London on the day of the interview. In case someone ends up reading this to help with their own query...

I rang Jessops today and they no longer have the facility to take these photographs. The guy I spoke to (from the Kettering store) said his branch were no longer able to do it since their store upgrade and he was under the impression that it was company wide rather than just his store.

I then called Snappy Snaps (Northampton branch) and got as far as "I'm applying for a Visa through the American Embassy..." before the woman on the phone finished my sentence and even knew the sizes I was after! It's a drop in thing, £10.49 for 4 photos, and they seemed confident that they knew exactly what they were doing, so I'll be popping in later this week
