We are just beginning our journey. My fiance lives near Delhi. Can anyone tell me where the "no objection" letter needs to be obtained prior to marriage? Do I have to get it here in the USA or from the Consulate in Delhi? We are receiving conflicting information.

If I have to obtain it here, can someone share who I need to contact? I'm having trouble locating this information.

Thanks a bunch!

You can obtain it at US. A no objection letter basically is a Notarized letter stating how you are eligible to be married in your country. But keep in mind you will have to make another Notarized copy again in India with Indian authorities whenever you do decide to get married. US consulate used to issue no objection letter, but now they only assist you with notarizing the document.

I hope you are ready to tackle all the hassle of getting married in India.
