Pardon me guys, i know most of the people here are in K1/K3 or IR-1 but maybe this also help other people out there. My case is IR-5 and my parents will have their intreview on July 7. Problem is they can not speak/understand English very well. Should I ask somebody to come with them on their interview or will the embassy provide one?

Thanks in advance on your input.

I am not sure if you are allowed to bring an interpreter but what I have heard, the consuls are very fluent in Tagalog.

Not all consuls know how to speak tagalog BUT pre-screeners are because they are Filipinos. And I doubt if the guards will let in the interpreter that you will bring as they will only let the applicants get in inside the embassy (except if the applicant is with his/her petitioner). I have heard that USEM is the one that will provide for an interpreter in case the applicant wish to have one.

Good Luck! :star:

Hi!

Our fellow VJers are right, USE will provide the interpreter.

While waiting for my turn last Nov for my B2 visa interview, I overheard a lady requesting for an interpreter as she is not confident in her English, her friendly CO said that,

"Ma'am, we will provide you an interpreter but why dont you try to answer it on your own since the questiosn are easy :)"

I suppose if they are providing an interpreter at the NonImmigrant section, they are providing that in the Immigrant section as well :)

Good luck!

Your parents will be provided an interpreter. I personally know someone (a mother) who does not know english and yet passed the interview.
