Never mind. Tallcoolone can have him. Sounds like an American woman with a #######...well, and a bass boat, but I already have a #######, I just need a bigger BOAT.

No puns intended

msu17 You're much more articulate than I am. :) That is what I would have liked to say, but from my fingers it came out differently. :P

First of all, Alla really does sound very sweet.

Second of all, Gary's statements really did get a rise out of me whether they were intended to be humorous or not. I'm not sure because I'm not familiar with everyone's "style" on here yet. Even if they were meant to be taken "with a grain of salt" they belie an insulting viewpoint (to me). But it's not an idea unique to Gary and Alla, I have seen this attitude across the boards from many posters and I guess I just responded to this thread.

I think what bothers me the most is that AMERICAN men feel they are entitled to bash and generalize AMERICAN women--but all the "American traits" they are complaining about in women do not apply to men sometimes as well? So American girls are frumpy cows and American men are perfect? And that is the be-all, end-all?

Maybe I'm just naive but it makes me sad to see Americans bashing each other or acting superior. Once again I probably said something wrong because I'm not very good at using forums but I was just sharing my opinion since everyone else can share theirs.

I had to work so I missed out on the rest of the story with this topic but I totally agree with what you have written. That is what had prompted me to post the ad for my ex-husband months ago. I got so tired of some of the men here talking about how American women are either lazy and won't work and we are fat OR we are super-charged bitches, nagging them to work harder to provide more for us AND we have bigger #######'s than they do!

I don't think any of us made a conscious decision to go the International House of Spouses to find someone new because we found American men/women distasteful. I happened to find a wonderful Danish man and fell in love but I don't think all Danish men are better than any other....just the one I have!

I think Gary was trying to be ironic and sarcastic and used exagerrated examples to make a point and it just didn't go over well.

I knew this thread was going to be a good read when I saw Gary's post at the begining so +1 for Gary, I couldn't agree more with him. As far as "most American men feel they are entitled to bash and genearlize AMERICAN women", well yes, we are entitled. While its probably not fair to generalize, as it is in any discussion of politics, religon, money, women etc., we "AMERICAN men" have been on the recieving end of the AMERICAN woman's sense of entitlement and "Man Bashing" for the past 30+ years. Most of us are tired of it and have simply chosen to move on with women from other countries vs. the US. For a lot of us, it's a result of having lived and worked outside of the US and understanding what other cultures (and the women of those cultures) have to offer us.

I know there are many fine women in the US to choose from but I choose not too.

That is definately a choice for you to have, we aren't saying its not. I'm not even from the states (yet)but regardless I dont think its right for ANYONE of any sex, race or heritage to make generalizations about anyone else, especially on a thread where it is not at all what the question was. Gary has a certain sense of humour that can often be lost on others. I have no issues with him at all, and mainly agree on quite a few points he makes, but as I said, the answers he gives to the questions sometimes get lost under the rest.

This thread started as a question about people who cancelled the petitions, why, and if they regret it. It had nothing to do with getting married to, or not getting married to an american man or woman. The OP was asking why people cancelled their petitions for one person and either refiled for that person or someone else, or not at all. This bashing of men and women on both sides needs to stop or be taken off the boards I think, there is no reason to be continuing to provoke a monster that was dead.

There is a time honored traditions for discussions in "Off Topic" to meander and lose their way in this manner.

However this thread is not OT.

I concur with Danu. It should either - rapidly- come back to the original topic, or it should be moved to OT, or locked altogether.

There's a "Report" option which can draw moderators attentions to the thread. I'm not going to report it now, but any of you who feel it's gone on far enough, feel free to do so.

This thread has gone significantly off topic for quite some time and some of the posts were definitely out of line. I am closing this thread as there seems to be no more useful discussion that can take place.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
