BY, fair and balanced has a very specific meaning. Being fair to one's audience is entirely different. I really, really don't mind that Fox has a bias. I can't speak for anyone else, but that is my opinion. However, if Rupert Murdoch is going to make the claim, which he did, that Fox is popular BECAUSE it's fair and balanced, then I am going to laugh, and I will laugh harder at someone who believes that to be true. I know that's not very nice, but there you go. Being tolerant is not always about being nice.

It's all about context. For ther center / right viewers, yes they are fair and balanced when compared to the other left leaning media sources.

Bias means not presenting the complete picture but rather concentrating on one side of the story, what ever side of the story one wants to promote. It matters not one jot what bias one's viewers have. If you want to present a 'fair and balanced' view, you present both sides of the argument, giving as much time to the counter argument.

To be a hypocrite in this context, I would have to be a representative of a news outlet, and claim that I was going to present a 'fair and balanced' news program and then go ahead and present something with whatever bias I happen to have. As far as I am a aware, I don't own a tv company but I am sure someone will let me know if I am wrong :)
