At least the Republicans will be happy with this proposal...after all it was at 50% under Reagan.

Read own crayon chart. It closer to 20% at the end of his term. No one here to figure out their own supporting info.

It's called a "Line Graph"

It clearly shows the tax rate was at 50% for the majority of Reagan's tenure.....between 1980-1986 (6 out of his 8 years in charge). Reagan must have been a commie!

It you case it's closer to being a lying graph.

It was phased reduction which most liberals opposed then. Did you expect him to slash taxes immediately?

Not to mention that a lot of deductions had been phased out as well. When the tax rate was 50%,

you could deduct things like interest on credit card debt or other consumer loans.

The Tax Reform Act of 1986 (which lowered the top tax rate from 50% to 28%) eliminated a provision

that had allowed two-income married couples to reduce their taxes by taking a deduction based on the

lower salary of the two; the deduction had allowed them to pay the same tax on the lower salary as a

single person would pay on that amount.

It also eliminated something called Income Averaging, which reduced taxes for those only recently

making a higher salary than before - individuals whose incomes varied considerably from year to year

could average their income over several years, a calculation that resulted in lower taxes owed in the

years of highest income.

Income Averaging sounds awesome! Why'd they get rid of it?

I don't know. I personally like the provision that allowed married couples to use the lower income -

it was a good way to avoid paying the highest tax rate.

Yeah then I'd be rooting for my wife not getting a raise! Go wage stagnation!

I would marry a minimum-wage worker for tax purposes.

You should have said something earlier...
