Trailer park's actually get bad press - some of them really aren't that bad and the "trailers" are demountable housing units. Sister in law just moved to one (her husband inherited the place), its actually a pretty big place.

Having a house that is attached to a poured foundation is a bit of a status symbol.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

In CA a lot of the houses are made of wood (even the ones with the foundations). They go up in about 5 minutes flat!

i think they have to file a WARN act or something like that if a certain percentage is being laid off. if its just a hand full no notice has to be given. we had a 90 day notice when i got laid off and then i think the next bunch also had a 90 day notice.

I have been on both sides of the fence, not easy to run a plant in this country when you have a government that sends over agencies to make you spend hundreds of thousands and dollars to meet their latest requirements. And at the same time encouraging cheap imports even to the point of paying Japan 10% of whatever they exported to us. Then to be told who and whom you cannot hire. If you don't have the money coming in, certainly can't pay people to stand around and you sure in the hell can't raise taxes for more income.

But we were working our cans off designing new products that the Japanese could not import to us, so my layoffs were only temporary, ironically, the older workers requested to be laid off, normally the ones with least seniority are laid off first. Why should they get to stay home and get unemployment compensation?

Complete disasters for employees is a hostile takeover of your company, they come over with fleets of trucks and haul everything away, no chance of ever getting a job there again. I was put in a position of complete secrecy, why, so the employees would work their cans off to the last second. They are very concerned about morale. To ease things up, severance pay was made depending on the number of years you slaved for that company along with vacation and sick leave pay. The worse disaster is for the employees to lose their health insurance. Yes I fought tooth and nail, but they call it business, the bastards.

Screw the global economy, that is why we are where we are today, and screw the importers controlling congress, they were getting filthy rich, but the bubble finally collapsed.

Had a company close their doors in another hostile takeover I was working for with home, car, and appliance payments with three kids. That changed my whole life, if I don't have the cash to pay for it, won't buy it. Also led me to form my own business, all my tools and equipment are mine. With that company, on salary, had to put in many extra hours to keep that plant running, and what for. But, it's business.

Yes, that was my reply as well, in NY, if it is considered a mass layoff (determined by the amount of people being laid off) the company is required to give you advance notice. When my office closed, they laid off about 500 people, and sent about 50 of us home to telecommute. Doing a quick search I found this.. hope it helps!
