Unemployment in an uncertain economy

It's eat or be eaten in the american job market I suppose? The average worker is at the bottom of the food chain.

Which is why you have to be more than average. The dog-eat-dog nature of the American workplace is designed to incentivize individual drive and entrepreneurship.

But in the end only a few end up rich, while the majority remain poor. There are bubbles of rich individuals but the rest are dirt poor.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

That's by design. I'm not saying I like it, but that's been the intent all along.

It is what it is. The worker bees are just that which is why paid holiday is laughed at too - unless you have a commie boss ;)

Miss the four weeks back home. Work like a freagin dog here. Pay is nice but I would give some back for more time off. Of course, it doesn't work that way. Extra time off here is perceived as being a slacker and you know how that ends up.

Huh? I've always had paid time off, ####### are you on about?

It's not universal and there are some very frugal vacation limits. Commies are used to a bit more leisure time than the average US worker bee.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

And truly that is what has failed the country. The divide between the rich and dirt poor is increasing daily. I never saw a trailor park in my life before coming here. They're everywhere in the states. Every city, every town I have been to. The places that don't have them are the inner city ghettos. They obviously have much worse things to worry about than housing size. Like making it through the day without eating lead.

I am the perfect example. I came here, well educated and with experience, so yes the sky is the limit. But if I came here with no education I would be SOL. Heck as a resident if I get fired I am still sol.

Okay I'll take up a blue collar job, wrong! taken by illegal for one thing. Paying too little is another. So what does someone in that situation do?

No, I've made a career out of strategically slacking off.

Dude I am the king of that. During my young days we used to go bowling, play pool and watch movies while being paid. Ironically though we were productive.

The best is taking a two week vacation overseas while pretending to be sick. Those were the days.

Get on that corner and start makin' deals.

As am I, I marvel at my accomplishments list sometimes. When do I get all that done? Beats me.

Trailer park's actually get bad press - some of them really aren't that bad and the "trailers" are demountable housing units. Sister in law just moved to one (her husband inherited the place), its actually a pretty big place.

You're more likely to see people living out of their cars or sleeping rough in major cities.

I've not done that. I have, however, spent a day taking my wife shopping at outlet malls when I'm technically "working from home".

To be honest and as a result, we were more relaxed and stayed back a little later and completed our work, before going out at night of course.

Working people like a dog just does not deliver the results. Google is a great example of that.

The upmarket strip joints where fun to go to on our lunch breaks. Aussie managers are relaxed anyway.
