Hello,

My local bank in the US doesn't allow me to wire money back home online, I always have to physically go to the bank and it is always a pain because they don't often deal with international wires etc etc.

So is there any US bank that allows ONLINE international wires?

I am on the east coast.

Thanks,

M

HSBC perhaps? They are a world bank and have offices in the USA as well as many foreign countries.

What is home country?? Profile details PLEASE: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...rCP&CODE=01

Other option I have used without any issues is Western Union, you can send money online, it can draw from your bank and send pretty much anywhere.

Home country is France. So Western Union can draw from my bank account in the US and send it to a bank account in France? And I can do all of this online?

If you have a Visa/MC logo ATM card, you can send $$ to anyone in France, they generate a transfer ##, and family in France simply goes to a Western Union location and receive the money.

As suggested above, check out www.xe.com. Another alternative is to do it through paypal, it's by far way cheaper than western union...

Another suggestion is to use CustomHouse...www.customhouse.com. There have been a few threads on the Canadian forum about it and lots of Canadian VJers use it to transfer $$ between Canadian bank accounts and US bank accounts, its free to set up, I am not sure about usage fees, and will usually give you a better exchange rate than the banks.

Oops forgot to add though that you do not get the money immediately, it will be an EFT and usually takes about 3-4 days for the $$ to show up.

Try www.xe.com/fx to transfer funds, as long as you have an account in both countries, its pretty easy. I use them to transfer Euro, NZD and USD between my three accounts.

Thanks Ed + Cindy. My bank doesn't even do online wire within the US. I saw that XE can use EFT (electronic fund transfer) which requires a signed authorization for them to draw the funds from my account. Have you ever done that? Or did you wire the money to them? What's your experience? Ty

I've used xoom.com also. It is reliable (at least it was for me) and it's not expensive at all, something like $4.99 to transfer anything up to $2,500. None of the authorized signature stuff like some other sites.

Everything in the US to/from my USD account is EFT.

Well, won't help you now, but last time my fiancee was here we set up a joint checking acct with a MasterCard/ATM. Works great for us. I can just move / deposit money into the acct and she can withdraw via ATM or spend via MasterCard.

However, I believe PayPal is another option for this.
