Merit Demerit System on VJ

Yeah I think a new system would be to subtract blue dots and hearts from people as their comfort level or disgust of VJ increases. So that if a seasoned member like suddenly shows up with no hearts and a lower level of blue dots--then we would all know that person was depressed or otherwise in a bad mood pissed off etc.

You could do the subtracting and adding of dots and hearts in several ways:

1st administrative substractions or additions for bad or good behavior--forum post etc. Run by Ewok and Syspos.

2nd user self-initiated substractions, so I really hate VJ that day I could deduct my blue dots as a form of protest and to show my fellow VJers how soon or likely I am to storm off and leave this Forum forever.

3rd fellow user initiated substractions, other users could complain or recommend through some sort of rating system that your blue dots and hearts be reduced. This could also work in a positive that good posters could have dots or hearts added by the concensus of other users on the forum.

Anyway--I hope I don't lose any dots for this idea.

In accordance with Georgia law, "The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act," I am required to display the following in any and all languages that I may give immigration related advise:

'I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW AND MAY NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE OR ACCEPT FEES FOR LEGAL ADVICE.'

"NO SOY ABOGADO LICENCIADO PRACTICAR LEY Y NO PUEDO DOY ASESORAMIENTO JURÍDICO O ACEPTO LOS HONORARIOS PARA El ASESORAMIENTO JURÍDICO."

Hmmm, how would you distinguish a "depressed" Vjer from a newbie?

We had a merit/demerit system in a board I was admin of, where under our Avas there was this other line of dots that corresponded to a "grade" you had. The more dots the better this person was viewed by the members. Merit and demerit was put there by other members, that when seeing a bad post or a very good post by some member could click on it to add a merit for that post (with an option to make a comment, which could later be viewed by the poster that received the merit/demerit). If the person had negative dots or such, they could even get themselves banned.

Laura,

I generally agree with your suggestion. The existing 'dots' system indicates how prolific a poster is but says nothing about the nature or perceived quality of their posts. A separate system of merits and demerits issued by the community members would add a worthwhile dimension.

I'm not so sure that I would use the system for banning, though. Banning should be based on adherence to the site terms and conditions, merits and demerits would more likely be given for other reasons.

Well, I just said that ´cus usually a member with such negative feedback from the other members will tend to act in a way to reason a ban. Happens quite often at this other site I was talking about.

In case you´re curious, it´s at www.animehorizons.com

The whole thing should be done away with period. Just gives some people insentive to post whether they have anything worth posting or not.

I'd like see how the nature of the posts would change if Off-topic posts didn't count and posts with only smileys didn't count.

The problem I see with that is that some newer people may still take what a person with my squares/hearts says as having more weight and the person could have been wrong everytime they have posted something.

Merit/demerit = yet another way for popularity contests and games.

Fun is fun, but unless people are willing to keep studying the issues (new forms etc now too) there will be no information here that is the foundation/purpose of this group.

Few seem willing to step up to the plate.
