I've petitioned for my fiancee and her two "adult" children, son 19 and daughter 18.

All documents seem to be in order except for these: the son does not have his military report--some kind of a mix up due to the payment for the report was supposed to have been made a year ago but payment was not made for lack of funds and now can not get an answer as to how much to pay for the military report and so no report.

The son has been attending college for the last six months. Is not having the military report a problem and how to handle it?

The second problem is the fiancee's certificate of Baptism has an incorrect date of birth and can not be corrected. Is it okay not to use the certificte of baptism or use it better to use it even with the mistake?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your responses. The stakes are so high I just want to be prepared as best as possible.:mellow:

I think someone who has gone through the US embassy in Colombia would be knowledgeable about the military report. As for the date of birth, that would definitely cause complications, the US doesn't admit mistakes on official documents and my advice would be to get a sworn affidavit of her age. Better to be safe than sorry. Just my 2 cents. All the best!

Cannot comment on the baptism certificate, do you not have birth certificate? I had never heard a certificate of baptism is required, is that consulate specific?

Regarding the military certificate I can say for sure it is absolutley required in Kiev as well as a deferrment for a student (if applicable) if it is for a male over age 18. Not sure how necessary it is in Colombia. Ukraine has compulsary military service for 18-20 year old males and they need to have a deferrment to get a visa. The US will not be used as a sanctuary for "deserters" so to speak. Our son is 18 and we are required to show his military registration card, copy and translation, along with the results of his appeal for a student deferrment, copy and translation.

My fiancee has her birth certificate, on the list of documents it state the baptism certificate is suggested", so I'm inclined to keep the baptism certificate "in our pocket".

The list of documents also states to provide the military report "if available" so I am hoping that not having it will be okay.

Yeah, I think I would keep the baptism certificate for "if asked" I sent my wife off to Ukraine with the package of forms for our sons K-2 (to follow) interview. All the documents needed are there plus a section in the back labeled "if asked" :)

I do not know what "if available" means regarding military certificates. The Kiev instructions say "if applicable", which for our son, they are "applicable" and they are certainly "available". Again it may not be such an issue in Colombia, have you asked in the regional forum?
