I do agree that there are double standards sometimes, with who gets a hard time around here. But it's also the way you or others say things that gets it started. Are you hot? I don't mind a bit of fun and can certainly handle a lot of bull #######. What I don't like is being stalked, corned and antagonized. Only to be suspended or banned when I punch back.

Well I do think some people are very good at being rude, and some others are better at being nice. I don't care what political side they are on. Jerks are jerks, and I'd rather not deal with them much. I have not seen only nice behavior from VW or alienchild, it's not like they are innocent lambs being attacked. But I do get annoyed seeing people go after someone who did nothing to antagonize and yeah some people who do that are the same who attack ppl during political discussions too. There are double standards in my opinion, yes. If your posting style isn't going to change, and theirs isn't, you will just butt heads forever or ignore each other. Christina, here's my take on it.

I'm actually pretty new to this whole OT scene on VJ.

Ask AJ or Spooky, they'll tell you, I really am just a pathetic n00bz here. But I like to think I'm a quick understudy.

Rule #1 - be very, very suspicious of those that take themselves too seriously here. This is comedy, it's not heavy drama.

I first encountered constellation, oh, maybe a month ago. There were two message threads that were under discussion - one on illegal immigration. The other on the US Constitution. N00b that I was (and am), I actually engaged him in serious debate. I wrote long posts, full of references to text, chapter, and verse. And I constructed rational arguments to explain my views.

It took a day or two, and a few solid wasted hours, to see what I was dealing with. He doesn't read. He doesn't comprehend. He doesn't follow a logical point. What he can and does, is repeat ad infinitum his "points" regarding (1) America is overrun by illegals and we all bask meekly in their glow and welcome them with open arms, unlike every other country which hunts them mercilessly, most notably Australia (2) American cities are overrun with crime and are in full decay, while we meekly and gladly sit back and think they're just wonderful -- unlike every other country which has spotless crime free cities, most notably Australia (3) The US Constitution is an ancient relic, just a rag, and anyone who takes it seriously (as do far too many of us on VJ for his tastes, apparently) is a fool -- unlike every other country in the world which does not suffer this constitutional myopia, most notably Australia.

Well that's about what his position seems to be founded on. Also some homoerotic love for Rupert Murdoch's Fox News, being Aussie of course.

Well, being that I like to think I am somewhat well versed on the subject matter and I saw flaws in his positions, I hastened to correct. I thought I was being quite helpful, informing a new immigrant to our fair land that things were not as bad here as he feared, and perhaps even earn from him a "Oh thanks, mate! I appreciate the helpful pointers!", and then merrily be on my way.

However, as stated, any and all attempts to patiently explain certain facts to him are immediately retorted to that these are simply not facts. That's when he reads and recognizes the patiently constructed argument, which is rare. Usually he will just take 3 paragraphs of prose and elide them with "...." in his response, which ignores the contents thereof. And then he claims triumphantly we have not refuted him.

So, it took a few days for this to dawn on me. I could of course just ignore him. That's the mature thing to do. But if OT is anything at all, it most certainly is NOT mature.

So, we just entertain ourselves by bantering with him. It's really good sport, rather like getting a big bass on the line. Quite thrilling. You might want to try it.
