I posted this because a posting I wrote yesterday regarding circumcision got pulled as "inappropriate" on a family-friendly forum.

You have mod powers, you can use them. Don't expect me (or anyone) to always have to agree with your decisions just because you make them. I think the vast majority of the mod decisions here are fine. I don't understand your position on this one.

On the contrary, I don't expect anyone who feels they have been "wronged" to agree with any of the decisions made by the mod team.

When VJ reintroduced moderation, it worked well. The first two mods were balanced and fair. Like Fox News, but the exact opposite.

And then the team began expanding and in every new 'batch' of mods that were introduced, some inevitably developed the God-complex.

It is how they said it would be.

We need a system of checks and balances.

Fine, but let an adult male decide to do this. I don't really know much about the religious significance of these operations. It seems to me like a very outdated practice and not one that should be inflicted on babies and certainly not by anyone who is not medically trained.

Do you think that piercing a little girl's ears is a barbaric practice?

Or that it should be done only by a medically trained person, as opposed to a cosmetologist at the beauty shop?

Because circumcision is roughly that invasive a procedure. It literally is removing an external layer of dermis.

Note that many (not all) mohels (those who perform ritual Jewish circumcision) are either doctors or have medical training.

Did I say barbaric? I don't think I did. Regardless, personally, I would not pierce a child's ears or anything else for that matter. It's up to them to decide what to do when they are old enough to make that decision - minimum 16 for me.

I am sure that removing skin from the ####### is a lot more difficult than ear piercing by the way. Errors on the former being much more painful and long lasting than errors on the latter. Medical staff required.

My three sons were all circumcised at birth, was recommended by our pediatrician, and done skillfully in a sanitized hospital room. Then, was no such thing as a deductible health plan, was covered fully. No bleeding and healed very quickly.

Now the question has been raised, is sex better without circumcision? Guess I will never know since I was circumcised at birth. Can this procedure be reversed? But with the right woman, difficult to believe it can get better.
