Hello everyone,

We just sent our I-129F yesterday... We are wondering what papers we should get ready for the next steps of the process... Also, I (beneficiary) am planning on getting my police certificate soon... Is there a problem in getting it done so early? Do I need to get it translated as most probably it is not going to be in English? Oh and also I have lived for more than 6 months in two different cities since the age of 16, do I need to get two police certificates from both places? Or does that only apply to residency in other countries at 16+?

Thank you!!

Aya

if the jurisdication is different you would need 2 certificates.

no problems in obtaining certificate so soon, because the embassy will soon send you a package asking you to get all these documents together so its always nice to have a head start

sorry i misread the post...

I thought you meant approval...no you must wait for an approval before starting on your certificate as certificates are only valid for a year and one never know how long approval might take

First off Congratulations on sending the I-129 F and my best wishes for you .

Well you don't know when you will get approval ( hopefully soon ) . and the police certificate is just valid for 3 months . so my thoughts you can wait till you get approval or till you get packet 3 from the embassy .

Yes you need to get a police certificate from those both countries .

good luck and my best wishes for you .

Moving to consulate/embassy forum, police certs are needed at the visa interview.

Most countries have one police cert covering living anywhere in the country, it is a national one.

Police Records

Available. Police certificates are obtainable by both Egyptians and non-Egyptians who were born in, or who permanently reside, or have resided in Egypt. The Police Certificate, called a "Criminal Status Record" (Saheefat al Hala al Gina'iyya), may be obtained upon application to the police station nearest the applicant's place of residence in Egypt, and normally takes between one and five working days. Applicants are fingerprinted on the reverse side of the application form. Upon completion of the investigation, the certificate is delivered to the applicant with appropriate notations covering arrests which have resulted in charges being brought before a court and previous convictions, if any. An applicant abroad should make application to the nearest Egyptian consular officer who will fingerprint them and forward their applications to the Ministry of Interior, Cairo, for investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the application is then returned to the applicant. The latter procedure usually involves considerable delay. Since the certificates are eventually issued, they must be considered available.

This is a national cert, so only one needed.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

All documents presented to USCIS and the consulates in this process must be in English or have a certifeid translation. Yes, you need police certificates from those places if they are available

Thank you! Well I did not live in two different countries since the age of 16, just two different cities... Do I still have to go to a police station say in Cairo and another in the city where I lived and get another one? Oh and where did you get yours translated?

P.S: YuAndDan I trust your info I just want to make sure how things go up here :)

Ohhh do you mean you lived in 2 different cities in Egypt ? if so no you don't have to get 2 police record . just one cause it stills Egypt .

You don't have to translate any of your papers ( police record , birth certificate . but anyway you will need to translate your birth certificate when you will move to USA .

so its cheaper to get it done in Egypt

Good luck

Felt kind of dumb to tell my wife to be to go to her police department to get a piece of paper saying she didn't do anything wrong, but whatever the USCIS wants. But they still check you with the FBI to make sure you are not on the terrorist list. Yeah, we had to have that and everything else translated, but seemed strange because when you call the USCIS line, they ask you if you want to speak in English or Spanish. For us, that was a huge expense.

Well I already have had my birth paper translated and we sent a copy of it along with a copy of my birth paper in Arabic. So seems I only should wait till we have our NOA1 till I start preparing for anything here.

Thank you everyone that was helpful! (F)

Guys, we have another question... Is the past living record is the same as police certificate/record? If not, how can I get it? I read in another topic that they are two different things... As I mentioned before in this topic, I have lived in two different cities since the age of 16... So how to prove it or get that 'past living record' paper?

Thanks

In Brazil we didn't have to translate any documents for the consulate if they were in English or Portuguese, so I only had to translate my birth certificate (for AOS and anything to do here in US/PR), which cost me quite a bit actually.
