Victim Allegedly Raped By U.S. Soldiers was Only 15

I have to admit I haven't read this entire thread. It's not exactly an off-topic discussion to lift your mood.

And I am not making excuses for any crimes committed by the soldiers, however I find it ironic that this topic is discussed on this website of all places. We are all on a visa journey to gain entry into the US, to live in a country with the freedom and opportunites that it affords, provided to Americans by the young soldiers who have battled in many wars and continue to police to world.

Only comment I can make about such news is that I wish the ones that engage in war on the "winning" end would have topped doing that kind of stuff by now.

Rapes and civilian killings used to be REALLY common in older wars, and it's sad to see it still is.

Yah, in one 'single' incident the Japenese soldiers raped and killed an estimated 50,000 women (and children) in Nanking :(:(

Let's get back to the initial topic and call it what it is: An abhorrent act committed by a VERY small group of clearly misguided young men. I hope that they get every bit of justice they deserve. I cannot claim experience in war, but I know many who have gone to war and have not raped and murdered 15 year olds. These guys need to be severely punished, because that is what separates the U.S. from many other countries...we do not tolerate such actions.

I am disgusted by the story, but even more disgusted that some members of VJ, who are trying to get a visa to live in the U.S., would use it to claim that the U.S. is evil or that all soldiers are evil. 99.9% of our men and women in uniform are wonderful people putting their lives on the line for us. unfortunately the .1% get the press.

I am curious as to the VJ members who are trying to get a visa to live in the US that you say are making those claims in this thread. I might be missing something but to my knowledge there is no member trying to get a visa that has made such claims. Any comments that you refer to have been coming from US side of the pond. Correct me if Im wrong but why do we always have to get the blame.

I heard on the news today that her neighbor said she was 14 and her sister was 5.. doesn't really make a difference... I for one hope they kill the b@$$#%^&! And all involved. Just another thing to make you wonder who the real terrorists are...

Here you go. Does it matter whether it's the USC or not? It's still despicable to imply that we are the terrorists.

See thats the thing, its NOT common with our military. This is an EXTREMELY rare occurance.

Yes it is. But I wonder why people are so surprised that something like this makes big news. The war is a deeply controversial affair, based in a large part on the shifting rhetorical sand that was used to build the foundation for the governments case. Regardless what you think about the war itself I think you can safely claim that this issue has divided the US public like no other issue in recent memory. In that regard its inevitable things like this will make big news.

However,I don't think anyone can deny that these isolated events cause "ripples". Trying to justify Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay for instance, by saying that "the terrorists do worse" is simply bizarre - because the existence of such a place, and the commission of abuses is completely at odds with the US' founding values and the broader 'liberal humanist' tradition of the western world.

Back to the discussion at hand, I find it abhorrent that people would call our soldiers "sociopaths" based on the actions of one crazy man.

If the guy did it, then he should go to prison for the rest of his life.

I did not call all of them sociopaths and I wish he wasn't one today... That's all they've talked about on the news today .... his anti-social behavorial disorder.... He's going to get away with this on the basis that he's crazy!!!!

Not to mention the fact that they moved him to KY today... anyone from KY here? Do they support the death penalty there?

And it's outrageous to say that just because someone is a USC means they have to give in and support this war or our actions thus far.

I also don't see it as something that rarely happens. It's not just men raping women either... I heard about women in the prison camps sodomizing men with strap-ons! One letter from a young woman who was kept in one of those prisons describes how the author was raped 9 times in one day! The women there aren't allowed to keep their clothes on and the men rape them night and day! Where is that on FOX????

No, that was another announcement today... he's not going to be tried in a military court but in a federal court. I think that's a plus but I'm not sure.
