BY - for all the blustering and grandstanding that goes on in parliament the UK has an effectively open border as far as immigration goes.

What do you think would happen if the US came up with legislation that would permit all of Central/South America to live, work and travel freely in the US without any Visa requirements?

It would mean, effectively, that there is no such thing as an "illegal immigrant".

Open border for the EU, not for anybody else. They are also fellow first world nations.

Some of them are, BY - not all.

Do you think the US should be more worried about illegal immigration from Central America or from Australia?

Same deal in the UK.

Well the United Kingdom obviously disagrees with you, thus, the laws recently enacted. Laws targeting both legal and illegal immigration. So I either listen to you or I listen to the BBC / British government. I think I'll take the latter.

If an Aussie or Brit went to each others country and committed similar crimes, we would be jailed and then deported permanently. Something you fail to acknowledge and comprehend. When it comes to immigration, there is not A second chance in either of those two nations. And these two nations are still tied at the hip.

Do not lie? They are all deported. Furthermore, good honest people with only the kindest intentions at heart.

Though, interesting that the Washington Post, NY times, LA times and so on have articles that suggest otherwise.

America has this liberal immigration policy but is not winning any awards for it. Why do you think that is? If the US's approach to immigration was groundbreaking, one would think that it would both win awards as well as gain world wide recognition for it. But you do not. I'll even go a step further and say the system is even the basis of what not to do abroad. For most other first world countries this is a not an issue. If anyone enters their sovereign country illegally and then assaults, murders, rapes etc. They serve their time and are told to never return again. if they do return and are caught again, they will go to jail and for a longer period.

It is exactly the same process in the US. Where are you getting the information that it is any different?

Based on the 5 trillion articles discussing repeat offender illegal immigrants. Krikit come on, the one thing no one can seriously ever say in the US is that the country is tough on illegal immigration, as it is not.

While I don't disagree that the US isn't tough on illegal immigration, I do know that felony prisoners are deported upon release.

I don't dispute that at all. I didn't address it to be sure - but that doesn't mean I don't understand it BY.

But as Krikit it isn't isn't any different to the US - if you commit a crime here while an immigrant (legal or illegal) you are jailed and deported.

And to clarify BY - the points based immigration system that the UK is bringing only applies to people outside of the Euro zone (which is why there was a lot of controversy whenever the EU decides to include new member countries - the last time they expanded it brought Romania and Bulgaria into the fold and plans are afoot to bring in the Balkans and Turkey).
