Make an appointment with a judge for a courthouse wedding.

In my area they cost $25. However, the judges that do them only preform from 1-3 or so weddings per week, because they are busy with 'real' work. The judges here are booked up for a month or two (again in my area). We wanted an in courthouse civil ceremony, but couldn't get one soon enough, so we are paying more for the judge to meet us on a Saturday (about $100, verses the $25 for a wedding in their chambers).

The place where you get the marriage licence should give you some info.

I thought this is where you get your Marriage License, not the wedding.

The county clerk's office can give you a list of (mostly) judges and their normal available days - we had ours in a district courthouse in North Austin (somewhere off Burnet Rd). There are several options to match most people's schedules.

Entire ceremony took about 30 minutes.

(512) 854-9188 is the number - you of course have to go in person to obtain the marriage license - I'd be willing to bet you could call them and they might be able to fax you the list of judges. We picked up ours the same time we got our license.

Tip - when you do get married - ask the Judge (or whoever performs the service) to let you take the license to the Clerk's office to get it recorded personally (is much faster).

We married on a friends fancy covered patio with a few close friends to join us on a Sunday afternoon. Very casual but fun and more special than an office. Austin has some lovely lakes and Zilker Park. How about right on the Capitol steps? Cool. By one of the fountains near the UT campus? In a hot air balloon?

This is what we are going to do....we were going for the courthouse wedding, but couldn't get a time in the next couple of weeks, so we opted to have the judge meet us Saturday evening at a local park. We will picnic with my parent's and a few close friends and marry civilly under a tree at the picnic...in the end, we think its nicer than a wedding in an office and not really more effort.

We still plan to have the big celebration, etc, later...
