First of all, thanks to all you helpful Visa Journey members out there. We just received our first NOA on May 29th, so this is a ways off but...We plan to file for advance parole at the time of our marriage so that my(by then) husband can travel back to Mexico to see his children and check on some business contacts. I understand that AP takes at least 90 days to go through. After that initial waiting period, does anyone know if that travel has to be considered an emergency for him to return for a week every now and again? Are there limits on how much time he can spend out of the country in the first two years? Gracias in advance for your help!

Advanced Parole is for multiple entries, do not have the wifes here with me but I rember it to be good for a year.

The wifes was approved on an emergrncy basis, for her to visit her doctor, she had surgery before leaving Brasil, it was approved only after contacting my Senators office, but it was esentially a medical emergency.

Trips to and from the home country for short periods less than 6 months or so are not a problem, the wife just came back from almost 3 months in Brazil, she still owns a house there and has twin daughters under 21 there.

No, with an AP he can travel for any reason

The limits for an LPR to be out of the country (whether is it the first two years or not) is 6 months consecutively without an AP. There are some exceptions, up to 12 months for students etc. For normal travel the limit for ALL LPRs is 6 months. He can travel for "a week or two" as often as he likes.

I think people have said that to apply for the ap you need an emergency reason; however, if you read the instructions carefully, it also talks about bona fida business reasons; my wife got her ap and when we applied for it, we didn't really have a so called emergency reason (death of family member, illness, etc), and she wrote down it was a 'business reason', and she explained why. We even called to have expedited, and ap was approved.
