Bye bye alaska?

Alaska really doesn't have much to worry about. The west coast is still to far for NK to touch. But Soul should really be worried. That would be the target if NK decides to do something really stupid. NK would see nuking Soul as attacking America and I think that is a very real possibility.

Gates: North Korea Prepared to Launch Missile Capable of Hitting Alaska

Capable, maybe, but hardly worth the effort. Until they can reach the west coast the real target will be S Korea.

Hitting S Korea with nukes would be suicidal. It's too close.

Remember who we are dealing with. Kim Jog Il is a psychopath.

And fratricide as well. There are strong family ties across the border.

To add, Japan is close enough, and has enough of a western presence to be a target.

I think mister bill got it spot on, education. The North Koreans do not know much beyond what they are told by their government. The media and schooling is so tightly controlled that even those brave enough to protest and take action do so with not only the risk of it not being seen by the world but with the real danger of being 'disappeared'.

I say give ####### Cheney and Condi Rice the keys to the military. They will have the problem mopped up by the weekend.

There will be a Disney World Theme park operating there by the end of the year

They had 8 years to do that but instead were putzing around in Baghuba.

It's not really surprising they chose the easy options. A hard sell to back to Korea, especially if they have some nuclear capability. Even without though, it was a mess the last time...

North and South Korea are still at war as a truce was never declared. They have merely been in a state of ceasefire for 50 years so the original issues are probably still the issues. 50 years of this sh!t? No body has come with a solution for 50 years, why do we expect one to happen overnight?

Napalm used against Japan during WW II killed a lot more people and did a lot more destruction than the two atomic bombs. But the atomic weapons had more of a psychological effect. Carpet bombing, considered conventional, but also highly deadly is also very effective. But as pointed out, why hurt the innocent people of NK because of a leadership that is also hurting them?

Ever since WW II, large rich countries, this country is no exception has been using 3rd world countries for wargames, NK is no exception, they neither have the wealth nor the technology to develop nuclear weapons. But China does and is a well known supporter. It was China that changed our tune in the 50's that made us back away, and China is doing it again. But we don't want to mess with a country that can cause us severe damage. Just the same old #######, and all the wrong people will get killed, again.

North Korea tears up ceasefire agreement

[ 27 May 2009 11:19 ]

Pyongyang –APA. Pyongyang announced that it will tear up the ceasefire agreement signed in 1953 and ending the Korean War, APA reports.

North Korea leadership officially rejected the obligations undertaken by the agreement and said it would respond any action by South Korea and its allies. The statement said North Korea would not guarantee the security of U.S. and South Korean warships and civil ships in its west coasts. “Any military action against the republic, including control over the North Korean ships, will cause a military confrontation”, said the Korean delegation in its statement.

Pyongyang breaks the ceasefire in response to South Korea’s participation to the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), launched in June 2003 on U.S. initiative, which is aimed prevention of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. North Korea conducted underground nuclear tests on May 25 despite UN protests.

The ceasefire agreement was signed between North and South Korea on July 27, 1953. The sides held 1076 meetings in two years before the signing of the agreement. The ceasefire was not replaced with peace agreement so far. The agreement considers establishing of 4-km demilitarized zone through 38th parallel. Pyongyang breaks the ceasefire agreement refusing to recognize the military demarcation line.

Looks like Obama's about to get his first war.

Great then we can see him fail and be smug in our foresight that he was the wrong man for the job.

That's very true. "50 not oh so short years, nothing happened!!!" It is kind of sad fact but what even more amazes me that N.korea is more likely to appear in foreign media and get more attention and worries from outside source. The truth of bottom line is when you go to South Korea, you will see it is very peaceful and/or too busy to take care of their own ###### and people barely seem to care about the war.

Well, NK is in a position, if they are going to lose, they will pop off the nukes...
