My dad didn't vet any of my boyfriends. My parents didn't give me any advice about sex. I didn't have sex until mid twenties - and not for religious reasons. Go figure.

Oh I know, I must have been an ugly kid and no one wanted to. That's it

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

over-simplified answer: DUH! of course having a stable father figure will reduce teen pregancy and further disfunctional relationship issues down the road.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I just glanced at the article, but I have always believed that a healthy, positive relationship with both parents is of course important. With that being said if the daughter has a good relationship with her dad she will likely have a more positive perception of men & will seek relationships with men who are like dad (stable, loving, understanding, etc). I've agreed with Danno two days in a row... I think this is a sign of the apocalypse!

Scary, isn't it.

Yeah, it's even scary for me :)

hi,pshyc 101.

To you and me it might be common sense but there is a school of thought....

we can call it the Murphy Brown outlook that suggests being a good mother is all a child needs.

And so some of these (selfish) people, purposely create children to satisfy "their need" for meaning or whatever it is "They" are seeking, disregarding the most basic need of a child.

I have a daughter who will be finishing up School in DEC, Even though she is married and living on her own it's a little surprising how (oh whats the right word.....) "important" I still seem to be in her life.

I wish my adopted father was still alive. He passed away in 1998 of cancer. I had the upmost respect for him as a protector, provider and loving father who adoped me and my 2 biological brothers together instead of only picking one or the other of us. When I think back on the several important decisions I've made in my life, Ive thought more so on the thoughts of how my dad would have been proud of me if he was alive. True my adopted mom is alive but there was something really special about my father.

That is really awesome and you are lucky.

Sometimes mothers arent left a choice and they end up single moms. They do the best they can, but there is NO substitute for a good father(or at least father figure) of course.

 to all the good daddy's out there :D
