My petition for my fiancee in Fujian, China has already at Package 3-out stage. I have some question about I-134.

1. I read on the instruction sheet for I-134, it needs a bank statements of :"Total amount deposited for the past year", but my bank only store data for the past three month, and could only give average balance. They told me if I want the total amount it's gonna be a lot of trouble. Should I make sure I get the "total amount" or is average balance sufficient?

2. This is a question about my qualifications. I just graduated from college, for the past years as a student I make about only 10k each year. However, I just got accepted into a PhD program and will have stipend of 20k/year, this offer is definite but it doesn't start until September.(I need the affidavit before then.) I live in my parents' house. Am I able to satisfy the financial requirement alone or do I need a co-sponsor?

Thank you for your time.

Banks can be such a pain. The bank letter is optional, if your income is documented and sufficient it is not needed at all. If your income is NOT sufficient and your savings is not suffieient to make up for it, the bank letter is purely a waste of time. Bank letters are most useful for people using assets to qualify or self-employed persons for whom it amounts to "check stubs". You can also attach 12 months statements. I really wouldn't care if it is a lot of trouble for the bank. What I did was draft the letter myself, took it to the branch President, asked her to type it up on bank letterhead and took a seat in her office. I said "I'll wait here". I had it in a few minutes. But, I repeat, it is optional and probably not useful in your case as you describe.

I would suggest a co-sponsor but attach a letter documenting the income. They may accept it but you will have a co-sponsor just in case. For the AOS affidavit you will probably be fine. The I-134 is a "present tense" form and if you do not have the stipend as income the day you fill out the form you cannot claim it as "current" income. The consulate is allowed wide latitude on this and may choose to consider it if it is well documented, this will vary from one consualte to another and one case to another
