I thought GM was in bankruptcy. Would have been there a long time ago but for Obama.

Obama's only been President for 4 1/2 months. Do you consider that a long time?

Given how the GM saga has played out, and the billions Obama has spent (wasted?) there, yeah. GM, their investors, and their stakeholders, cannot have bad enough things happen to them. They have done too much to wreck the economy. Everyone in that picture is blameworthy -- GM management, GM engineers, the UAW, those stupid enough to buy GM bonds or stock. Its been apparent for years that GM can't do anything really responsible or right. They were once my biggest customer, once my employer. I've seen them from a number of vantage points.

I understand why Obama is trying to spare damage to the economy, given the broader mess he inherited. But if there were justice in the world, GM would be liquidated.

I just can't resist asking, please forgive me....

Why do you hate GM?

I worked for a successful business unit a large chemical unit sold to GM because it wasn't core to the chemical business. GM was our largest customer, and they wanted a captive supplier. They destroyed our business. It is a pretty long tale, but GM management showed itself incapable of managing a chemical business or indeed much of anything else that doesn't involves bening metal. I stayed with GM, and then with Delphi, for 10 years, trying to keep the business afloat while they consistently took decisions, based on their automotive ideology (JIT doesn't work in chemicals, for instance), that gradually, inexorably destroyed the business. As part of Delphi's bankruptcy, the unit was sold to a competitor some time after I left Delphi. The final shoe dropped a couple weeks ago, when that competitor fired 87% of the remaining research & engineering staff of that business unit.

As I said, they were my biggest customer and the owner of my business for about 10 years. I saw the capability of their management for many years. They do not deserve to stay in business.

In any just world, they wouldn't get a cent of govt money and they would be forced into liquidation. They are predators and they did this with plenty of their own prey.
