Petitioner at K1 Interview

Sorry if this has been asked before, but, I'm just trying to think ahead.

Is it important for the US petitioner to be present at the consolate interview for K1 visa? Is it a big deal if the petitioner is not present at the embassy for the K1 interview? The reason I ask is for two reasons. I would love to be there if it is allowed or encouraged. I may not be able to be there for financial reasons, but will be able to go there if visa is approved. If it helps for me to be there, I will make arrangements to make it happen.

I read in various posts about both the petitioner and beneficiary being at the interview, yet in K1 guides, it says that 90% of petitioners are asked to leave for the interview.

My fiancee is Philippine so this would be at Manila.

Just gettig started.....VisaJourney convinced me I could do it. I hope I can. I truly love my fiancee, and want her with me. :star:

When in doubt, check out the Embassy section (here on VJ) - quite often you'll find the answer you're looking for... For PI it says the US Citizen may attend the interview.

I and many others weren't there with our fiancee's. If you feel that you should be there, go for it. This is not a requirement from the Embassy. Good luck to you!

Thanks for he quick responses.

I guess my worry is her going through the process alone. And, how many petitioners were not at the interview. If they were not there, was it harder for the beneficiary. I just want it to go smoothly for her. Maybe I worry too much.

Thanks for the responses.

IMO,i think its a case to case basis..In my experienced, the consul asked me to submit a statement from my fiance on why he was never been married at his age [53] or why he didnt marry the mother of his 2 kids [same woman],the reason i got a 221g..So,if my fiance was there,he could explain about it..I wanted to explain though but i choose not to say anything about it,about what what happened to him and his X,and also i dont think im on the right position to tell the consul about the story behind it..If you think you have enough proof of evidences of on going relationship, and your fiancee knew you well, theres nothing to worry about because questions are all about about you and your fiancee...

Also in the Embassy section you'll see a Review area/hyperlink - where other VJ members write an account of their interview experience - you might find it useful.

For interviews in some countries (PI is not necessarily one of them), it is a very good idea to attend the interview - for the rest it is either optional or not even allowed. (US Citizens are never denied entry to a Consulate/Embassy but that doesn't guarantee being able to attend the interview. As stated above, PI says you may attend if you wish.)

The petitioner's presence during the interview won't make a big deal i think.I was alone during my interview. A lot went thru the interview alone but made it. In most cases the petitioner are allowed to get inside the US embassy only but not to be with the woman during the interview with the Consul. The CO will interview one on one the beneficiary not the petitioner and can't be inside the CO's room.

Actually, some COs do let the petitioner in for the actual interview.

In Kiev they allow in the building and usually allow you in the interview also. It was never a question in my mind...I went. If I had had to stand outside I would have. I was there for Alla, not for "the interview" I do not think it made any difference one way or the other for our interview.

Yes, I am leaving for the Philippines one week from this Friday for Bing's interview  At this point, I'm not leaving anything to chance. We will have an engagement party with her family and hopefully fly back to the US together on July 4th!

I have some friends who's fiancee's were with them during the interview but the petitioner was not allowed to get inside the Co's room during thei nterview.I guess you are right it depends on the CO.

there was one thread here I read that if it is K1, the petitioner is allowed to be with the beneficiary during the interview but if it is K3 or CR1 they won't allow it. My fiance was present during my interview but I did not let him go with me at the interview with the CO, however the CO ask me to let him get inside the room and he interviewed my fiance too. Maybe it's really up to CO.

Then I guess it's really up to the CO then, because I did not let my fiance come in, but the CO asked for him.

For interviews in some countries, it is a very good idea to attend the interview...
For others who are reading, it is worth shouting from the rooftops: The petitioner must attend the FIRST interview in Ecuador. The consulate will never tell you this. Do not attend, and you are guaranteed a refused visa or a 221(g), with the result that your U.S. citizen hind tail will be ordered back to Ecuador for a Stokes interrogation.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
