Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

OK, well so far, if the figures mentioned are anything to go by, I now fully understand why the lady told me she'd be in touch again very soon: I said $40,000!!! Ooops!!

Having said "oooops" though, perhaps it's not such a bad thing, as I clearly fall well within their salary range!!!

you did fine....you got a job and some security...:dance: congrats..brother damien

Well, not yet Brother Almaty; I've just progressed to the next round of interviews. But it's certainly progress.

When I was looking for my first post-degree job I got asked once how much I'd like to make. I tried to change the subject (like I'd been told in college) but he persisted, so I gave him a range of what entry level s/w engineers were making. The guy said the job paid 1/3 less than that! Plus the job was COBOL, so I wasn't crushed when I didn't get it.

Took four more months, but I finally landed a job in that range.

My experience (having interviewed countless folks over the years) is that what they're really asking is "Can we afford you? or are we waisting our time?" Actual salary negotiation begins later and isn't necessarily based on what you responded with earlier.

Best responses are something along the lines of "Well, I've earned between X and Y over the past 2 years in same/similar capacity and would feel comfortable earning the same or better..." And leave it at that.

I love this answer. Will use it myself in the future, thanks.
