Yet ANOTHER Affidavit of Support Question

I'm on the K-1 route, waiting to marry my fiancée in the states. We're preparing the I-485 packet in advance. I'm the USC and I don't make enough to meet the poverty levels. My mom is willing to sign an I-864A. Since she's part of the same household, this does NOT make her a 'joint sponsor," does it? I would check, "I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative" on the I-864 and my mom would just sign the I-864A, right? Thanks.

Yes, it will obligate your mom as a joint sponsor. You will complete an I-864, mom will do the I-864A

For the K1 part of the process your mom will complete an I-134 as well as you, the petitioner.

Don't sign and date the forms too far ahead. Some require a recent signature when the AOS is filed.

I see. So, which box do I check in part 1 of the I-864? What am I?

You would check 1a. You are the petitioner.

The I-485 comes from your (then) wife, not you.
