American embassy in Paris - HELP PLEASE...

Hello everyone!

I'm struggling to get info from the american embassy in Paris and I was hoping someone would have been through the same and could help me... I've been paying 15 euros per call to get unuseful and contradictory information from the embassy, i've tried to fax them e-mail and i'm going crazy...

Police record :

I have other nationalities than the french one but I've never lived in the other countries than france yet in packet 3 list they ask for the police record of your country of citizenship (for the french one it took 3 days, for the other ones is almost impossible because I never lived there, I don't have an ID, I would have to go out there to get it done and it would take 40 to 50 days ) In the embassy site they say that only police records from the places you have lived after turning 16 are required...

Do you need a police record from a place you have never lived in although you have the citizenship?

Translations :

They say that the accept original documents in french or english but that they need a certified translation in english for all the documents in other languages... the problem is that in france, they certify the translators from or to french... so i guess I would have to translate it first into french and the into english... but is a certified translation of a certified translation a certified translation? plus the fact that it is double the amount of money

Does anyone know if they accept translations in french?

Interview :

I'm starting to think that the only way I will find out all this is if I show up to the interview with what I have... but what happens if you go to the interview and don't have all the required papers? do they just reschedule an interview or is it more complicated than that?

NOA2 :

What does the expiration date on the NOA2 mean? does that mean that I need to have the interview before that? what happens if I don't send the packet 3 before that expiration date...?

I'm so confused... I'm frustrated and desperate... sometimes even about to give up and my poor fiance, I'm stressing him out and he is stressing me out I guess this a good preparation... If we can get through this we'll be good for life

If anyone could help me in order to make this wedding happen I'll be sooo grateful that I'll invite them to the wedding

This is just a bonus question Birth certificate :

as your birth certificate is your birth certificate and I don't think it changes after your birht, why do they ask for a 1 year old birth certificate?

Most people follow the guides (Step by Step etc) and have no issues and are successful with their journey. Most submit police certifications from places they have lived since the age of 16 and nothing more. You do not mention your other nationalities - this might be useful information for anyone trying to help but I'm not certain it really matters.

Short answer is "Yes" if that is how it works in France - the embassy/consulate will be well aware of this.

Should you go to the interview and are missing something they want to see - you would likely be given time to respond.

The approval notice/NOA2 (I-797C) will have an expiration date of 4 months from when it was issued - the Embassy/Consulate can and often will extend this approval period (almost as a matter of routine) if any delay was of no fault of the petitioner/benificiary. Your fiance can contact them if need be to confirm this.

You do not need police certifcates if you did not live in those countries after age 16 for more than 6 months, certainly not if you never lived there. Vacations do not count.

I never heard of anyone asking for a one year old birth certificate. What was the bonus? $1 million? Dammit, missed out on being a millionaire AGAIN!

My wifes was about......oh never mind. It wasn't one year old. It was issued by a country that no longer exists if that is any help.

The other nationalities are brazilian and italian (I was born in brazil, from an italian mother and was naturalized french). When I became french I lost the italian citizenship but I did my master's degree in the US and got my visa under the italian passport (because i was not french yet)...

I wanted to get all of those certificates just in case but It's not that easy... and I can't even get infos from the embassy that would tell me if they accept certificates issued from the internet...

I was thinking of sending the documents to the US and getting them translated there but I don't even know if they accept it that way

They did ask me for a birth certificate emited within a year from the interview... french administration emit birth certificates valid only for 3 months and I was curious to know why, as your birth certificate shouldn't really change after your birth...

You do NOT need PC's from a place you have never lived.

Getting PC's via the internet is not going to happen.

If you insist on getting PC's from these other countries... follow the link, pull down the country and read about the availability of PC for that country... most of the time you either need to visit the police station or submit a request through that country's consulate/embassy.

Hi Aloha,

I don't quite get your question around translation. I need info since my French fiance's will get to this NO2 phase at some point. Were you saying that the Consulate accepts any documents written in French or English? Does that mean he does not need to hire a translator to translate his birth certificate or police certificate or anything that's written in French? Please confirm. I have briefed him to start looking for a translator but if the embassy in Paris accepts French documents, then I guess that's one less thing to worry about.

Getting PC's via the internet is not going to happen.

In France you make your PC request via the internet and it is mailed to you within a couple of days. For my past visas (F1 and J1) to the States I have provided the American Embassy with this internet ordered version and it was no problem
