I am soo sorry to hear of you leaving Suki... :( wish you all the best.

I have been here for quite a while as well.. started reading this back Nov 04 then thought hey silly might as well sign in .. thats the date I joined.. needless to say.. I am here everyday.. I read almost all new topics posted.. get a taste of what is being said... but kinda due to my situation.. and Jan not having the documents available.. many times I dont feel at ease to give my opinion.. .. but I do indeed read and digest what is beign said many times. Thus.. my silly lil blue dots NEVER represent time .. or activity.. augh ..

I too have seen just a few more times than necessary snippity or unnecessary comments. Some have been directed to what I have posted.. some to others who obviously dont have a clue of what is going on..

but many many many times I have seen very honest open and outright caring people trying to go thru this process with a small peice of dignity left.

A forum as this .. is perfect for everything.. a melting pot of knowlege from all going thru the process and also a breeding ground for hurtful or unintentional negitive thoughts... we all process it in our own ways. We all have our own culturally bred expectations of what should or should not be said.. .. therefore.. I think if anything this situation has opened my eyes wider as to the need for more acceptance.. but also my awareness of my own thoughts.. and need of filters...

My daughter asked me a question the other day.... What would the world look like if we all were blind.. ...... then she said... it sure would be nice... cause there would be no judgments of what a person looks like would it.. we would have to depend on what we hear and feel instead of what color ones skin is or what kind of clothes they wear or anything.. ....... think about it.. ..... many times I think we all need to be blind...

caring isn't caring unless the other person knows;

sharing isn't sharing unless the other person is included

If what happens in OT happened in the Immigration forums, I'd agree. I don't see the need for active moderation in OT, however. Occassional chaos ain't such a bad thing.

Some people are hell-bent I think on responding to 'controversial' threads with personal attacks - which I think detracts from the discussion. If its really that hard to debate those issues, why do they bother -I mean, who needs such people?

An effective way to deal with disparaging, hurtful or ignorant posts is just to ignore them completely. It may be difficult to do but if instead of responding, just continue on as if the poster never posted what they did - in effect, ignoring them and completely negating their participation. They may get fed up and just leave or perhaps become more considerate with their choice of words. The down side is that in absence of any response they may also try to escalate their obnoxiousness hoping to trigger someone's hot buttons and garner a response. The moderator may be required to step in such a case and delete the posts or ban the poster. Still, it might be worth trying.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I understand what you're saying. However, I would not like to see a VJ moderator turn into an arbiter on proper debating technique. Surely, if there are people available to assist Ewok who have that kind of time and patience, there are better ways to utilize them?

I thought so too!!!

Now I may be blunt & say how I feel, but you don't catch me with no 'wah wah my feelings are hurt' stuff.

If that's what you're implying, I'd have to disagree. ;)
