WHEN TO CHANGE THE NAME ON PASSPORT?

I AM doing the CR1 for my wife in manila,

she still waiting for the interview.

when can she change the name on the passport.

Our time line for CR1 visa took only 5 months and 1 week or 156 days; from the filing the I-130 on the 03-12-2009 to Approval of NOA2 on the 05/13/2009, then Interview on the 08/18/2009 at Manila, Philippines. We had a daughter on the 11-12-2010 named AISHA JOY means HAPPY LIFE.a1_opt-1.jpga2_opt-1.jpga3_opt-1.jpg

I think in Philippines its a rule to change the last name after marriage (I am not sure but this is what I observed after reading other Philippines name change related threads). So your wife can change her name before the interview.

And its also is a better option to change the name before interview, so when she arrives in USA she will receive her greencard with the new name, also VISA will be issued to the name which is imprinted on the passport.

12/07/2009 - POE LAX

12/16/2009 - Received GC in mail

Removal Of Conditions 09-09-2011

09-09-2011 : Mailed ROC packet

09-12-2011 : Packet Arrived CSC (delayed from labor day long weekend)

09-14-2011 : Check Cashed

09-14-2011 : NOA1 dated 09-12-2011

09-19-2011 : Early walk-in Biometrics completed (Original date 10/03/2011)

02-07-2012 : Green Card Approved

02-11-2012 : Green Card Received

Citizenship

09-07-2012 : Mailed N-400 package

09-10-2012 : N-400 Package delivered

09-13-2012 : Check cashed, email and text received with case number

09-14-2012 : Biometrics letter mailed

09-15-2012 : NOA received dated 09-10

09-17-2012 : Biometrics letter received for 09-27

02-25-2013 : Interview Passed - Original interview was 01-07-2013 but was out of country so postponed

I am in a similar situation, i am still not sure weather to use maiden name or the married name in DS230 because so far all the other application(i130,g325a) were under maiden name and now her new passport is in her married name. Is it ok to suddenly start using married name instead of maiden name?

Yes its totally ok to use her Married name now. If you look at form DS-230, line number 2 asks for maiden name, so you will be all right.

My wife changed everything before filing. She's changed her passport, national ID and Tax ID Card and we included copies of them showing the name changes. Also, in El Salvador, they ammend womens' birth certificates to show married names so we sent an official copy of her birth certificate showing that too.

We are in the same situation you are. We made a copy of her current passport for the Bio-page copy needed for the DS-230. I think they just want to make sure she has a passport. Then she applied for a new passport (needed NSO marriage certificate) to support name change. She will have her new passport on 6/18. I will submit the new bio-page then,, and use the new passport for processing in Manila. If I run into any issues,,, I will send you an EMail.

i am wondering about this too...

i am still using my maiden name cos i just got my NSO certified MC the other day. i needed that to change my name on everything. but before i start the name change, i was wondering in your opinion (and/or experience) filipino ladies, which is more ideal? to file under my maiden name or change everything first before filing the form I-130? how much paperwork would it require?

gosh i am so confused and i haven't even started yet! ugh! :unsure::blink:

04/17/2010 - GC and SSN in the mail

01/06/2012 - Sent I-751 package to CSC

01/09/2012 - I-751 delivered at 11:12am / Date of NOA1

01/12/2012 - Check cashed

01/14/2012 - Received NOA1 hard copy

01/20/2012 - Date of ASC Appointment letter

you can get everything ready after ur I-130 approved. it is better to be prepared in advance.

my wife not getting the things done and NVC is waiting for the DS-230..........

Hello everyone. I just got married last April 20,2009 and i requested an advance copy for the marriage certificate so i could change all my ID especially passport. My husband decided to changed all my IDs so there will be no questions or doubts just in case. Also, in the Philippines, i know that you have to change your status and last name as soon as you get married. Hope all of us will have a smooth journey.

I-130 Journey:

05-28-09: Sent the I-130 Package

06-02-09: Chicago Lockbox received the package

06-08-09: CSC received the package

06-13-09: NOA1 received

10-19-09: Hubby's second visit in the Philippines

11-10-09: Hubby's flight back to USA

11-13-09: Approval notice sent via SMS and email

NVC Journey:

11-19-09: Case number assigned

11-30-09: AOS bill and DS 3032 from NVC received

12-01-09: DS-3032 returned via email

12-03-09: DS-3032 hardcopy sent via FEDEX

12-05-09: Paid AOS BILL

12-07-09: DS 3032 hardcopy received by J. Desmond

12-15-09: IV BILL generated

12-19-09: Paid IV BILL

12-22-09: Sent AOS package

12-23-09: AOS package received by J. Desmond

12-23-09: DS 230 package sent

12-24-09: DS 230 received by ------

12-29-09: per AVR, NVC received the documents and under review
