Not sure where you were going with the walmart greeter reference, you sentence was missing some key words.

Some people make decision not to be poor but circumstances force them to be poor.

I agree this is true(it seems I think the number is far less than what you think), but consider this, some people make the right decisions work hard there entire life but struggle in middle class to make ends meet. Often its thought that this kind of system only affects the rich not true.

There's also the situation where they make these hardworking decisions, but, they suffer from the negative. I am not surprise that there are more failures than successes.

I disagree, I think when you make good decisions the good out weighs the bad.

Of course good decisions will make good consequences. There are obviously more failures compared to successes though. Sometimes they continue to make good decisions, and continue to recieve good result. And, sometimes they make good decision and the result lasts for 2-3 years then they fail. It's a continous cycle. Success comes from multiple failures.

Success does come from multiple failures and when you make good choices in life the failures arent as catastrophic and the good out weighs the bad proving my point that a flat tax is the solution. :jest:

Taxation without representation is tyranny.

taxation with representation isn't so great either.

I vote for no income tax and a high sale tax.

I'd like the sale tax to be 2 parts, first part State which would be fixed and second part County which would be whatever the county wants. Counties would compete with each other so if SF is higher and Oakland is less, people would go to Oakland to shop so Oakland doesn't necessarily lose out if their tax is low (big items... refrig, computers, HDTVs.... people would go to Oakland to buy it then buy gas there too and maybe pick up some other things while they are at it.... SF loses out).

The only downside to this is with tourist, they might not out buy so much, but maybe, if they show an out of state ID, they get a different rate? Delaware does this (no sales tax in Delaware), but they card people on big item purchases to see if they are from Maryland, but I don't know what they do if they are from Maryland. I know Maryland had a big problem with people going to Delaware... last update I had was that Delaware was carding them, but I'm actually not sure what they do if they are from Maryland).

California Dreaming.... no income tax!

But, even this system would fail in a bad economy, what system wouldn't fail in a bad economy?

Come to Texas. No state income tax. State sales tax is 6.25% while the cities and counties have the option of adding a percent each. So the maximum sales tax rate is 8.25%. If you live in the middle of a big city, chance are you're paying 8.25% (like me). If you live just outside city limits, probably have 7.25%. Live out in the countryside and it will be 6.25%.

Car sales taxes are 6.25% regardless of where you live in the state.

As for Delaware and Maryland? I would guess that Delaware is taxing Maryland residents who shop there and then sending the tax money to Maryland (which I think is a big crock of ____). Massachusetts has been trying to get New Hampshire to charge MA residents sales tax and then send the sales tax money back to MA. New Hampshire doesn't have income or sales taxes.
