It's so funny to me when I run into French Canadiens whilst on holiday.

"You're just a Canadian, there's nothing fancy about you. Now drop the act, I know you speak better English than most of the natives here in De-twa."

I hate to tell you this slim but noone lives in De-twa any more they all moved to the burbs. If you go to dearborn you better speak arabic or farsee(sp), go anywhere else and a little spanish will help but of course you can go south to hamtramck and speak a little Polish if you like. Or you can slide to the west and hit my part of the state and speak uptight religous rightwing nutjob.

I used to live in South Carolina, so I am fluent in uptight religous rightwing nutjob. I also speak bible thumping preachy goodoleboy bubba. The dialectics are surprisingly similar.

Yeah, but every day while I'm out at the roach coach, we do our best to imitate Eminem in 8-Mile. They didn't sound very Canadien. No Arabic or Farsi either, as I recall. That's still there, right?

Speaking of Detroit, have you guys seen the U.S. Marshals show on Discovery or A&E or whatever? That's an awesome show! Nothing like detailing all your vehicles, tactics, locations and identities of all the agents on your fugitive task force on TV that way the bad guys can see what's up. I love watching those shows where they spell it out for you. "Yeah, uh, we're in this neighborhood, but we can't tell you which street, and uh, there's a guy down here who calls himself peanut, he's a bad dude. We're going to take him down."

I'm astounded by the stupidity of some of these criminals. Then I'm equally astounded when they foil the Marshals. "He was supposed to be here."

I agree those plastic bags are perfect for putting in the diaper pail and throwing out every couple of days, plus using them for bathroom trash can liners etc. And I take the cardboard boxes and newspapers to work and use them for packing.

I used to know an assistant State Attorney in Wisconsin, who would (after a few drinks) proclaim "thank God criminals are idoits, because if they had any brains at all, cops would NEVER catch any of them". Obviously he believed that police were only a half-notch brighter.

 After working with several police officers, I'll second that. I believe there are some that start out kind of smart, but after being hamstrung by the system for so many years, they kind of just give up and then drive the car around til it's pension time.

What many people don't realize is cops are reactionary. They only respond to reports of crime. They don't head out every day to stop crime before it happens, they only respond to reported crimes and then do their best to figure out who done it. Most of the time, they don't figure out who done it, and even if they do, the who done it gets pretty light punishment.

7 minutes. Keep that number in mind. Always.

I like the 21 ft. thing. (For those who don't know, 7 minutes is "average" police response time and 21ft. is the amount of ground an "average" person can cover in less than one second.)

I was reading on the OFCC forum about a demonstration done during a concealed carry training class. The instructor would select two students - one would face the target with his pistol in it's holster. The other would start with his hand on the shooter's shoulder and then take off running in the other direction. When the runner took his hand off, the shooter would yell "I have a gun and I will shoot." while drawing his pistol and then firing a shot at the target. At the sound of the shot, the runner would drop a handkerchief and keep running. When the shooter shot a second time, the runner would stop.

Results - Handkerchief was dropped at 42ft. from shooter and runner made it off the range before the second shot was fired.

Now, how long does it take to draw a pistol and fire a shot? A second? Two, maybe? If an "average" person can run 42ft. in the time it takes you to draw a pistol and fire a shot, think about what a career criminal bent on doing you harm can do. And if they can do that in just two seconds, what could they do in 7 minutes?

At least with the pistol you have a chance.

Probably a lot like it is here - depends on how much money is involved!
