Hi all,

Got married to my love a month ago, having successfully gone through the K-1 process to get to that point.

My citizenship is American, his, Moroccan. Last year, I was on a fellowship to Morocco, where we met. I lived in Morocco for a total of 14 months, from late October 2007 to late December 2009. I haven't filed tax returns for the stipend I received while living abroad, although it's possible that I should have. We received a stipend each month in Moroccan currency directly from the Moroccan agency that co-sponsored our fellowship.

I returned to the US from Morocco in late December 2008, and my then-fiance (now-husband!) was able to join me here by mid-March of this year. We married in May and are now hustling to send in all AOS forms before his K-1 status expires, just to be safe. It expires in the middle of June, this month.

In the months since I've been back, I've been working a low-paying retail job and looking for more work in this desolate economy. I'm not over the poverty level. My parents have been kind enough to agree to file an I-864 with us, as joint sponsors. Their income should more than qualify us. But I'm unsure about what to do as I file my own I-864 as the actual petitioner, since I don't have tax returns from last year. Should I send in my tax return from the last year I filed taxes in the United States? I was a college student then and making less than I make now. Should I also send in pay stubs from my current job? I'm not sure I was even was thinking forward enough to keep all of my stubs from this year. Should I include a letter from my employer?

To anyone who's made it this far down the message, thanks for bearing with me through this lengthy explanation of the situation. Any advice or suggestions very much appreciated.
