Joyce, I should explain about the credit cards. I did not apply with a US address. You should apply BEFORE you move to the US. Use your Canadian address and SIN. You will get approved, then after you move and get a SSN, you call to trans the card. Your chances of being approved as a Canadian are way higher.

I got my Amex that way. And applied for Macys the day I came over....technically as if that morning, I was resusibg in Canada LOL!

I'm gonna try for one last card before I start opening up bank accounts etc...and establishing myself with a US address and credit history.

Oh... PopRocks!!!! I just want to cry for you! That is awful that you've had such a horrible experience. I'm glad you're having fun at Disney right now, though. I'm sure everything will work out... but the stumbling blocks are what make us stronger (at least, that's what people say), and I hope that is true for you.

Take care and I might try to call and check in on you... another friendly voice! :)

Thanks for the tip. Technically, I won't be living at Tim's house till after we're married, so would that mean I don't have a US address

I'm wondering, if Tim added me to his credit card account if it would help with credit? I'll be keeping my account open here in Canada anyways, and probably keep my visa although the exchange will be hard. I'm talking to my banker soon anyways. Maybe he'll have some suggestions.

I'll see what kind of card I can apply for before moving. No doubt they have online applications.

Thanks guys :)

Yes, I've had a better couple of days :) spent yesterday in the Magical Kingdom and today at Animal Kingdom. Tmrw at Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

I figured that I could let things get me down, I just focus on the positive....we finally are together!

Jill, I probably will try for a Cap One once I change over my credit stuff...

You really gain an appreciation for what true 'immigrants' go through. I think about people who are doctors and surgeons in their foreign countries, and they come here to work at Dunkin Donuts LOL! Seriously....as long as we have our health, everything else is just a mere minor hurdle...

I'll tell ya, I need a vacation after this one! I'm beat! How to kids do it? LOL!

Poprocks - don't worry about the meltdowns, the confusion, the stupid ####### that makes you feel small some days. As everyone who is already here has said - it improves. The first little while you wander around, trying to get all kinds of basic things in order because that's what you're used to being able to do yourself - some will happen smoothly, others - not so much

As for the iTunes thing - yah - 2 separate accounts - US and Cdn - I am not entirely sure, but maybe you can import your Cdn library of music( with some difficulty) into your US account - I did it transfer my daughter's stuff to get it off my account and onto her own - but it's a little hokey.

Wiz(USC) and Udella(Cdn & USC!)

Bo drives around all the time for work (Geek Squad hehe), and I think I know where Wilson is..Raleigh is a nice city though, confusing when you're driving sometimes :)

I did have my bio appointment last Tuesday. I was there all of 10 mins - really easy...fingerprints, picture and a small form to fill out. Crazy thing is, they were the NICEST people! I didn't know USCIS hired nice people lol :) If I get an interview though, I'm not sure if they do them here in Raleigh or if I have to go to Charlotte. I got the letter for the appointment about a week after they received and entered all my AOS papers, and the interview was 3 weeks from the letter. Decent enough turn around. My file was touched Wednesday so I assume they have my fingerprints and such now.

Now I wait...again...lol...at least I'm learning patience through this whole process I suppose eh? :)

I survived on Canadian cards for a while, but never had the pleasure of trying to buy gas with them. I can see that being a problem.

Ditto on the credit "rule", my husband had to sacrifice his credit to cosign with me... Canadian credit doesn't "speak" to American unfortunately. You will probably have problems everywhere with that.

I actually used Paypal as my bank. I still do. I can pull money out of Canadian accounts and move it to the US ones, and VV. I use that to pay off my CAD cards from our US acct. It's free, and takes about 10 business days from start to end.

I'm sorry to hear it's been so rough since you've been here! I hope things pick up soon
