Passport renewal

Hello All -

My wife's Russian passport (external) expires the end of December. Can anyone tell me what the current procedures are for her to renew it here in the US?

I've been to the embassy sites and cannot find any information. I've also tried to contact each of the 5 by phone the last 2 days, but cannot get through the prompts to speak with anyone. The Seattle Embassy handles our location.

She has heard the procedures changed in April, and one must personally visit the embassy to get this done?

Any help would be appreciated.

consulate is the only people who i am aware of that could help.but i am new here myself,so i am not positive.

We went to the Russian consulate in San Francisco to submit the forms; when completed, they called us and we had to go pick up the new passport. I think it took 2-3 months. Read about it on the site of the Russian consulate in Seattle:

It says that by mail is ok provided the letter to the consul general is notarized.

We renewed my wife's passport last year through the embassy in DC. Did it by mail, but it took 6 months. We also had them add the notation about her new name in the US which has worked great for international flying even when her ticket is booked in her new name. All the information was on the Russian embassy web set, but of course written in Russian. I was unaware there were any changes to the procedure. Be sure to check again. My wife called the embassy a few times and they were.....a bit helpful, but in the standard Russian "customer service" way.

Just received my wife's passport renewal yesterday from the Houston Embassy. The directions there are in Russian. Wife also called a couple of times. We did it by mail (FedEx). They said three months and that is what it was. The only thing I can suggest is looking on their web site in Russian. Call them until you get someone to answer. We called around 2pm and go someone in the passport office. They seem to only work there in the afternoon after their long lunch break. Good luck.

Yes, at our consulate the time to serve Russian citizens is after lunch, I think at 2 pm. Morning is for visas to visit Russia.
