I use the various job boards. Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, yahoo.hotjobs.com etc. But there are also some industry specific boards like medzilla.com

Also check individual companies that may not post on boards. You can visit biospace.com to get the job websites for various bio/pharm companies. Doing a google search using the words biotech jobs will give you some of the boards to check. Make sure you have a strong yet concise resume and simply apply to all jobs that interest you. Don't be afraid to reach a little beyond your capabilities, because they are going to train you anyway.

It might also be useful for you to have your degree evaluated if at some point in the futrue you need to get a specific license. You can have your degree evaluated at www.wes.org. Some employers, state agencies, hospitals, or universities may require a degree evaluation since your degree is not from the US.

Best wishes on your job search.

cornbread, Thank you so much for your quick reply! We used various sources to apply for the position but no positive response as of yet. We tried several staffing agencies to help us find job but they all want experience. We tried sites like biospace.com, ibpa.org, monster, careerbuilder, hotjobs, kelly scientific service, adecco, and etc., but not sign of better result. We have also evaluated the degree to see what is it equvalance in US. We used Foreign Credential Services of america to evaluate the degree. The evaluation result came out really good, per report they said Its MS in biomedical technology here in US.

We are not sure what else to do. We have applied for jobs like crazy but everyone has same response "even though you have impressive qualification we are pursuing other candidates". Please suggest if you any other advice.

Thank you once again!

Are you prepared to move (to area where pharmas have more of their offices/plants) waithatter?

(question is quite serious: I remember a Gujarati family moving to Calgary--rather than Ontario, where pharma jobs tend to be clustered in Canada--in mid 1980's where the father was in pharma; and I had to hear many of his, and wife's, harangues on the difficulties they were facing trying to find a pharma job in Calgary).

2005/07/10 I-129F filed for Pras

2005/11/07 I-129F approved, forwarded to NVC--to Chennai Consulate 2005/11/14

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

Try the university HR sites too. Don't know if you're in Dallas per se, but you do have the UT system and the medical center usually involved in some kind of biomed research. MS degrees are a definite plus for Sr Tech positions.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

HAL9000,

We are in dallas area. We applied for several entry level tech position at UT southwestern medical center, but no reply from them as well. We tried to inquired about the status of application by speaking with HR person but all they say is "your application has been given to appropriate dept for furture review".

Sorry to hear that. My PI worked there for a few years- one of the HPLC systems I use from time to time still has the sticker from UT Southwester for some weird reason.

Even though some academic units are currently in hiring freeze mode, there are openings to be found throughout academia. My 2 cents is for you to blitz as many university HR websites (particularly the private schools with better research endowments than many of the public institutions) as you can and expect a delay of up to a month (or a bit longer) to hear back. A previous technician position I had a while back had me on an almost 2 month wait. When I was emailed for an interview I was working out of science and believe me... it was a very pleasant surprise.

You may also want to take your credentials to the larger pharmaceuticals and clearly state you are willing to relocate... but that industry right now- even with a PhD... is getting a bit touchy.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Good luck with that, seriously. Hopefully the return to almost-decent NIH funding levels under Obama's administration will translate to more job openings across the board.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
